Empowering the Next Generation of DC Healthcare Leaders! ?? I’m thrilled to celebrate the growth and impact of our recent Fall Leadership Conference for DC Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) under the leadership of Candice Mott. My fellow State Advisors, Carleather Ponder, Aris Pangilinan, Carletta S Hurt, Ph.D., and Annette Oshin-Animashaun planned a simple, yet effective 2-day program. Held on October 29th and 30th at the University of the District of Columbia, this year’s event marked an impressive leap, expanding from 80 participants in 2023 to 200 in 2024! Highlights: ? Cross-Organization Collaboration: Student leaders from all five DC CTSOs united to inspire, connect, and mentor the next generation of local chapter leaders. ? HOSA Leadership in Action: Our dedicated DC HOSA-fhp state officers (Jaysi Ramirez , Avyona Turner, Molly Kirsch, and Henry G) led impactful workshops on day two, setting a powerful tone for developing healthcare careers with the support of Corey He and Prisha Chawla ? Building Future Industry Experts: This conference highlighted DC’s unique ability to cultivate industry-ready healthcare professionals, driven by local mentors and community leaders. Looking Forward: We’re already planning the Mid-Winter Leadership Conference in January at The Catholic University of America- Conway School of Nursing which was just recently opened. This event will engage over 500 members in student-led professional development activities, providing hands-on learning experiences with healthcare professionals, and student led workshops on advocacy, leadership, and service. DC is looking to support our students through your the district to pay their National, State, and Local Dues. $30 may not seem a lot to some, but that can be a significant cost for over 65% of our membership! Please consider donating, sharing, and supporting us. Budgets continue to be reduced across the district, and our local education agencies can no longer fiscally support our members. The goal is to reach $10,000 to help over 300 potential members!

Connecting the Dots: Reflections from HOSA's 18th WLA Conference As DC HOSA-fhp ‘s State Advisor, I'm thrilled to share insights from our recent 18th Washington Leadership Academy (WLA) conference. This year's event, our largest yet, concluded with an inspiring address by Rawle Andrews Jr., Esq. from the APA Foundation. His message resonated deeply with me, emphasizing connection, kindness, and strategic teamwork in healthcare leadership. Key Takeaways: The Art of Connecting Dots Andrews shared powerful metaphors about self-awareness, kindness, and breaking silos. He stressed the importance of serving in teams while leveraging our individual superpowers. His call to "lean into trust" and avoid turning our backs on our teams particularly struck a chord with me. The RACI System: A Framework for Effective Teamwork I found the RACI system Andrews introduced particularly valuable: - R - esponsible: Who does the work? - A - uthorizer: Who makes decisions? - C - onsultants: Who provides input? - I - nformed: Who needs to be kept in the loop? This system will be instrumental in organizing our DC HOSA teams more effectively. The 5 Rights to Prevent a Wrong: Andrews' "5 Rights" principle resonated strongly with our DC HOSA goals: "Right people, in right places, doing the right things at the right times at the right cost." Looking Ahead: “Whole and Well” I'm excited to share that Andrews' organization will offer a 2.5-hour training session for education-related personnel, aiming to bring us closer to a "Whole and Well" world. This aligns perfectly with our mission at DC HOSA. DC HOSA: Embracing the Connection As we implement these insights into our DC HOSA programs, Our team and officers are committed to fostering self-aware, kind, and collaborative future health professionals. I invite all our members, advisors, and supporters to reflect on these messages. How can we better connect our dots? How can we ensure we're in the right places, doing the right things, at the right times? Let's continue this conversation and work together to shape the future of healthcare leadership. Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below! #HOSA #HealthcareLeadership #DCHOSAConnects #FutureHealthProfessionals #WLA2024 #PoweredbyPeople #APAFoundation
