Be part of the movement to build a just food system in D.C. We know that D.C. residents desire better food choices. Yet thousands of families face significant barriers to accessing fresh, nutritious food and experience disproportionately high rates of diet-related health conditions. This isn't just about food—it's about social, racial, economic, and health equity. DC Greens is at the forefront of this movement, aiming to advance health equity by building a just and resilient food system. Founded in 2009, our vision is a capital city in which health equity is a central value, healthy food is a human right, and all residents have the resources to shape and control policies and programs for their own communities. New #OnTheBlog: DC Greens' Produce Rx Manager, Luisa Furstenberg-Beckman, reflects on her time attending National Produce Prescription Collaborative’s (NPPC) National Summit: "The Summit pulled cross-sector attendees together from government, academia, medicine, philanthropy, the private sector, and nonprofits. We touched on various aspects of the Produce Prescription field and together we asked hard questions on critical topics, like healthcare, community engagement, storytelling, state and national policy, and — most importantly — funding. Simple topics, right? Hardly. However, these are the important ones that we need to be talking through as a cross-sector field in order to ensure Food is Medicine interventions are more impactful, sustainable, and effective." DC Greens has named Eric Angel as its next executive director. Angel, a seasoned nonprofit leader, joins the organization after a decades-long career leading justice-related causes. Angel will assume the role at the end of July. “We are thrilled to welcome Eric to DC Greens,” stated Dominique Hazzard, DC Greens board co-chairperson. “Eric brings decades of experience working to create systemic change in the District. He is a thoughtful and grounded leader whose approach will position DC Greens to continue advancing health equity for years to come.” Angel arrives at DC Greens following his tenure as chief of staff at the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP), the civil rights agency within the U.S. Department of Labor that works to protect workers, promote diversity, and enforce the anti-discrimination laws against federal contractors, who make up 20% of the economy. Before his tenure at OFCCP, Angel served as senior policy advisor for Bruce Spiva during Spiva's campaign for D.C. attorney general. “It is an honor to have been selected to lead DC Greens, an organization on the forefront of the Food Is Medicine movement,” stated Angel. “I have long believed that access to healthy food is a human right.” Read the full release: https://bit.ly/3zvyjcJ
