DC Central Kitchen (DCCK) is an iconic nonprofit and social enterprise that combats hunger and poverty through job training and job creation. The organization provides hands-on culinary job training for individuals facing high barriers to employment while creating living wage jobs and bringing nutritious, dignified food where it is most needed. DCCK’s social ventures include serving scratch-cooked farm-to-school meals in DC schools, delivering fresh, affordable produce to corner stores in neighborhoods without supermarkets, and operating fast-casual cafes in the District of Columbia.

One of the benefits of our social enterprise cafes is being able to showcase products from organizations with similar values, like Rockville-based Sunflower Bakery. Similar to DC Central Kitchen, the woman-owned social enterprise uses food as a tool to prepare young adults with learning differences for employment in the pastry, baking and hospitality industries. We were honored to witness the ribbon cutting for the new refrigeration system at My Seniors Keeper Foundation, Inc! Their urban garden is an inspiration and oasis in beautiful Ward 7. The Potomac River mid-air collision struck especially close to home. The Klein Center for Jobs and Justice, our home, sits at the tip of Buzzard Point, a stones-throw from the crash site. Since Thursday morning we've fed first responders, serving hundreds of breakfasts, lunches, and dinners at the recovery operation underway on Gravelly Point.
