Fivetran’s dbt Cloud integration that launched earlier this year is now available in GA ?? This integration allows all shared Fivetran and dbt customers to automate their data transformations after data is loaded. As organizations shift to cloud data platforms, the ELT approach is gaining popularity because it offers better flexibility and collaboration compared to older methods. With this integration, customers can streamline their data processes, running transformation jobs only when new data is available, which reduces delays and costs. Setting it up is easy: Users just need to connect their dbt Cloud projects in Fivetran, and jobs will automatically run after data loads. ?? Introducing cross-platform dbt Mesh ?? At #Coalesce2024 last week, we unveiled an exciting capability: the cross-platform dbt Mesh in dbt Cloud. Cross-platform dbt Mesh represents a significant evolution of our existing dbt Mesh, allowing teams to coordinate their dbt workflows across multiple data platforms. In his latest blog post (link in comments) dbt Labs co-founder Connor McArthur explains: “Half of enterprises that use dbt Cloud are working across multiple different data platforms. This would have surprised me in 2016, but over the last few years, I have come to believe that it's a wonderful thing. Practitioners love the tools that they love, and teams purchase the tools that suit their needs. From there, at an organization level, the tools and workflow should stitch these various systems together to create a seamless experience. Today, working within a single data platform works well, even with multiple projects. But when it comes to working across platforms, the seams in the quilt are more like chasms. Practitioners across different business units aren't able to discover or re-use the contents of the ‘other’ platforms; architects aren't able to govern how data is exchanged. Work ends up happening in siloes, and we hear things like, ‘I have no idea what the other team is doing – they don’t use the same platform that we use.’” With cross-platform dbt Mesh, we are tackling these challenges head-on. This capability not only enhances governance but also allows for greater reuse of models, ensuring that all teams can collaborate effectively.
