Engineering the Future!
关于我们
Students in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science work on — and even develop — the technologies that make air and space flight possible. From navigation and control systems to the electroluminescent dimming of the windows in a 787 airliner, these technologies involve embedded computers like those found in mobile phone and flight control systems. There is always something new being developed in this area, and students get to work with the latest systems in electronics and the digital world. The EECS Department has four undergraduate programs: Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and Software Engineering. Each of these programs involves a high degree of systems thinking: understanding how the individual parts of a complex system fit together to make a working whole. Students don’t just work within their own discipline, they interact with other disciplines, too, just like real-world engineers. Each degree program includes plenty of hands-on experience. Starting from the first day, students work individually and in teams on engineering projects like electrical controllers or computer programs. All four programs share a common multidisciplinary capstone design course, in which students from all the fields work together in teams on an industry-level project. This prepares students for real-life work experiences, so Embry-Riddle’s EECS engineering students are in high demand. Because they leave the program not only with a degree, but also ready to go to work as engineers, it is common for students to have job offers lined up before graduation. At the graduate-level, the EECS Department offers the Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science as well as Master of Science degrees in Cybersecurity Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, and Unmanned and Autonomous Systems Engineering.

This past weekend, I had the incredible opportunity to compete in the NCAE CyberGames alongside a talented team from the White Hat Eagles Cybersecurity Club at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Electrical Engineering & Computer Science Department The competition was an intense but rewarding experience, with the red team constantly challenging our defenses and forcing us to think on our feet. From securing vulnerable services to responding to live attacks, every challenge pushed our skills to the next level. I’m grateful for the opportunity to compete, learn, and grow with such an amazing team. Looking forward to the next round of challenges and continuing to sharpen our cybersecurity skills! Huge thanks to the organizers for an incredible event. It was my absolute pleasure hosting Dr Daniel Krutz as our COE guest speaker. I was truly amazed by our students’ insightful questions and incredible engagement throughout the session. Their enthusiasm was evident—not just in the discussion but also in the few who excitedly took selfie with Dr. Kurtz! That alone speaks volumes about how much our students enjoyed and valued this talk! #GuestSpeaker #EECS #ERAU

Undergraduate Student Research Spotlight!? ? Two of our undergraduate student teams recently presented their work at the 15th Florida Undergraduate Research Conference (FURC), held at the University of South Florida Marshall Student Center in Tampa, FL. Their projects showcase the innovative and interdisciplinary undergraduate research happening in Embry-Riddle Daytona Beach College of Engineering!? ? Poster 1:?"Exploring Neuroevolution: Can Evolved Neural Networks Detect Cyberattacks?" ?by Regan Bossie, Tyler Donay , Megan Krajewski, and Richard Pepe - Megan and Regan shared their team’s work on enhancing anomaly-based intrusion detection by applying neuroevolution to evolve neural network architectures for cybersecurity. This project explores a novel approach to cyberattack detection, leveraging AI-driven adaptive learning.? ? Poster 2:"Autonomous Vehicle Scenario Modeling"? by Hannah Ramsden, Isabella Acosta, Serana Conticello, William Reimer, and Davian Rosario-Ortiz - Hannah and Isabella discussed their research on expanding the application space of the AV validation platform PolyVerif and integrating evolutionary AI models to improve autonomous vehicle testing. Their work contributes to next-generation AV validation frameworks with AI-driven scenario generation.? ? Both teams are working under the guidance of Dr. M. Ilhan Akbas, contributing to cutting-edge research at the intersection of AI, cybersecurity, and autonomous systems. ? We are incredibly proud of our students for their dedication and innovation! ?**#AI #Cybersecurity #AutonomousVehicles #Research #Neuroevolution #FURC2024 #EngineeringExcellence #GoERAU

A look inside our classes: CS 332: Organization of Programming Languages Combines Theory with Hands-On Coding CS 332: Organization of Programming Languages excites students by seamlessly integrating theoretical concepts with practical coding experiences. The course offers a comprehensive exploration of how programming languages are structured and implemented. Jaxon praised the class as “very well-organized” in terms of course materials, while Justin noted that the content is both “good and really understanding.” CS 332 provides students with a deeper understanding of programming language design and functionality, preparing them for advanced work in software development and computer science research.
