There are many spaces to be considered in a project of this scope, each with specific functional needs. For example, the needs of the Band Room, Choir Room, Percussion Ensemble Room, Practice Rooms and Black Box Theater, not to mention the Auditorium itself, are all considered in the individual sense regarding Audio, Video, Theatrical Lighting, Rigging and Acoustic requirements. The needs of these spaces were also considered from the perspective of how they function as a collective (a Choir Room sandwiched between Percussion Ensemble and a Scene Shop...no thank you. The ability to easily bring set pieces from the Scene Shop to the stage...yes please). dBA Design Group is delighted to partner with Schmidt Associates on another exciting project. We are bringing our performance acoustics expertise and collaborative design and support process to the table for the Concordia Lutheran High School Auditorium renovation in Fort Wayne, Indiana. dBA has conducted on-site acoustical testing and is now analyzing the characteristics of the existing space. We will consider specifically how the space will be utilized, targeting acoustic performance parameters and recommending design solutions that allow the Architectural team and school to implement the chosen aesthetic direction while meeting budget needs.

The City Administration Building in Bowling Green, Ohio, is a fantastic new facility housing various city departments and services. Concerned about noise and speech intelligibility, our friends at Mosser reached out for assistance and support. Full glass walls, marble counters, open office spaces, and multiple receptionists working simultaneously while interacting with the public and various staff—in other words, acoustically speaking, these are very challenging spaces to function within. Working directly with the Mosser Construction team, dBA utilized a variety of methods to develop an acoustic treatment and noise control plan. We met directly with the occupants of these spaces, gaining an understanding of how each space is used and the impact that adjacent and connected spaces have on each other. Our on-site services included inspecting existing construction systems and conditions, real-time observation, and measurements of typical interactions and noise levels. This was followed by precisely executed acoustic testing conducted after hours. A 3D model was created, and acoustic modeling simulations were developed. This allowed us to compare and contrast site-captured data with the modeled data. Virtual sound sources could be placed, and output levels could be set with full knowledge of site conditions. Treatment material performance criteria were then issued, allowing the design team to follow their chosen aesthetic within these parameters. This type of collaboration, detailed information gathering, in-depth studies, and analysis ensures the right solutions for our clients.
