  • ?? Have you seen Lincoln, the Great Dane, around the hospital with his owner and Dayton Children's pet therapy volunteer, Dr. Raphael Allen, PhD??? While Lincoln is loved by many, his massive presence at Dayton Children's is more than just a friendly visit—it’s a powerful reminder of the strength of community. “I always wanted Lincoln to not only help me but to help me serve others too,” shares Raphael. Black History Month is a time to reflect on the power of community and connection, and Raphael embodies that spirit every time he walks through our doors. "When you do things from the heart, it affects hearts. That's a quote from an African-American musical artist that has always rang true to me." And, as a cancer survivor, Raphael shares a special bond with our patients at the hospital. “When I was going through my cancer journey, people would ask how I coped, and I would tell them—going to Dayton Children’s was a way that I was able to lift my spirits." ?? We appreciate Raphael and Lincoln for showing up—because they know that sometimes, the greatest way to make history is to simply be there for those who need it most. Do you also want to show up and make an impact? You can join Raphael, Lincoln, and our incredible volunteer team in bringing community, connection, and care to families at Dayton Children's.
