    Is AI making market researchers obsolete? That was just one of the bold questions our clients raised during our recent webinar, ‘Accelerating Pharma Launch Insights.’ The discussion sparked some fascinating debates on AI’s role in insights. Here are three of the most thought-provoking questions—and our take on them: 1??How do we avoid AI becoming an ‘echo chamber’ that just repeats what’s already out there? AI is great at synthesising existing knowledge, but to push beyond that, we need to train models on fresh insights. One technique we’ve used is training AI agents to think like diverse experts—entrepreneurs, brand strategists, innovators—to get radically different perspectives. The key is using AI to stretch thinking, not just validate what we already know. 2?? Can we ever fully rely on synthetic respondents in research? AI-generated respondents (based on real data) are proving useful in persona work and early-stage ideation, but they’re not a replacement for real human input. Synthetic data needs to be constantly updated and validated against primary research to ensure it reflects reality. AI + Human will always be stronger than AI alone. 3?? Are we making market researchers (or insights teams) obsolete? Far from it! AI is shifting the role of researchers—not eliminating it. The real value now lies in asking the right questions, crafting smart prompts, and critically interpreting AI outputs. The best insights still come from a mix of data, human intuition, and strategic thinking.
