Just Published! Groundbreaking research article reveals how homes can transform healthcare. We're excited to announce new peer-reviewed publication that challenges how we think about chronic disease management and biophilic design. To address timely needs for improving medical treatments and scaling up prevention, we describe an overlooked solution: the therapeutic power of our home environments. Published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, our paper shows how combining biophilic design with digital innovation can bring clinical benefits through: ? Environmental enrichment that supports the autonomic nervous system and neuroplasticity? ? Personalized health education for chronic conditions from pain and migraine to depression and anxiety ? Integration of e-commerce with digital health platform for scalable delivery of the therapeutic home environment What if every purchase for your home could be an investment in your health? ?? While healthcare leaders invest millions in new treatments and medical technologies, many are missing a remarkable opportunity hiding in plain sight: the healing power of the environment itself. Why aren't more organizations embracing this approach? - Many leaders hesitate to invest in environmental improvements without data-driven ROI (though the evidence is growing stronger, e.g. check the 2nd Edition of “The Economics of Biophilia” report from Terrapin Bright Green) - Few medical, administrative or design programs teach how physical spaces may affect healing and recovery - Many existing healthcare facilities were designed before we understood the science of therapeutic environments Yet forward-thinking and value-based care organizations are discovering that biophilic design, and neuroarchitecture can be more than aesthetics. They've seen how strategic environmental improvements support their clinical and business goals in an increasingly demanding healthcare world. Patients in healing-focused, restorative environments typically need less medication, recover faster, and report better experiences. Staff benefits too, with reduced burnout and increased satisfaction. These outcomes translate directly to both bottom line and quality metrics. Your patients deserve spaces that help them heal. Your organization deserves every advantage in delivering exceptional care. Let's connect to discuss practical, budget-friendly ways to transform your facilities into powerful tools for recovery and wellbeing ???https://lnkd.in/gT7nPG8e #HealthcareInnovation #PatientCare #BiophilicDesign #ValueBasedCare #DesignForHealth #Neurodesign #Neuroarchitecture #Hospitaldesign #HealthcareDesign #InteriorDesign?

Could the answer to rising healthcare costs be hidden in plain sight - in the very walls, windows, and spaces of our medical facilities? Our research points towards biophilic healthcare spaces to reduce operational costs. Here's how: ?? Reduced patient stress leads to faster healing: Patients exposed to natural elements experience decreased cortisol levels, better sleep quality, and improved cognitive function—directly translating to shorter stays and fewer readmissions. ???Staff environments matter: Healthcare professionals working in spaces with biophilic elements show decreased burnout rates. Our studies demonstrate how natural light, materials, and restorative spaces can reduce medical error rates and the cost of replacing each departed clinician. ???Nature as medicine: Did you know that the presence of nearby greenspaces were shown to reduce healthcare utilization, including decreased use of medications for mental and cardiovascular disorders? Research shows exposure to the natural light can decrease use of analgesic drugs for pain management. Our team at Dayhouse is transforming healthcare spaces with biophilic design principles that benefit both patient care and institutional budgets. Imagine reducing medication usage, staff turnover, and readmission rates without new policies and costly medical technologies - just by transforming the healing environment… #BiophilicDesign #HealthcareInnovation #HealingEnvironments #DesignForWellbeing #PatientCare #Hospital #HospitalCare #InpatientCare #AmbulatoryCare #BiophilicTherapy #CostEffectiveness #RealWorld #EvidenceBasedDesign #HealthcareArchitecture #PatientExperience

  • How can healthcare providers can make therapeutic home environments a reality? This is a great question we’ve seen come up a few times in conversations and comments since we posted our latest research. Education really is the first most practical step. Healthcare providers need to understand the science connecting nature-inspired design to better health outcomes, because this evidence fundamentally changes how we approach treatment and prevention of chronic conditions. When clinicians understand that biophilic elements can directly modulate the autonomic nervous system, reduce inflammation, and promote neuroplasticity, they can integrate these as active therapeutic interventions. Dayhouse's journey in this field started with our "Healthy Dwelling" article in 2022, showing how thoughtfully designed spaces could help people with migraines, chronic pain, and depression. Our latest research takes this further, demonstrating how our homes can become active healing environments - not just places where we live. You can find both peer-reviewed articles on our research page ?? https://lnkd.in/gk_urZmp Just as doctors ask about diet, sleep and exercise, they could start asking about a patient’s home environment - natural light exposure, air quality, relaxation spaces - treating our living spaces as an important part of our health picture. The home is where we spend most of our time, making it possibly the most powerful yet overlooked tool in our healthcare approach. #BiophilicDesign #TherapeuticEnvironments #HealthcareInnovation #ChronicDiseaseManagement

  • How many hours did you spend at home this week? Unlike occasional wellness and fitness activities, our homes affect us constantly. The science is sound but overlooked: our physical environments shape our biology and behavior. The autonomic nervous system, neuroplasticity, immune response - all influenced by our surroundings. Yet while we meticulously track steps and macros, we neglect the spaces where we live 70% of our lives. This blind spot is particularly striking as healthcare shifts toward home-based care models. We've created elaborate systems to deliver pharmaceutical and digital treatments yet pay little attention to whether the environment itself promotes healing or harm. Imagine healthcare providers recommending specific home design modifications for disease management the way they prescribe physical or behavioral therapies. Or insurance covering home adaptations that offer clinical benefits for chronic conditions. Or therapeutic home environments designed specifically to reduce stress and improve therapy outcomes. The healthcare conversation is expanding beyond nutrition, sleep, and exercise to include the persistent influence of our living spaces. The home is the next therapeutic frontier. What one change could make your living space more restorative today? #BiophilicDesign #InteriorDesign #HomeDesign #DesignForHealth #RestorativeEnvironment #TherapeuticHomeEnvironment #BuiltEnvironment #EnrichedEnvironment #HealingSpaces #HealthcareInnovation #HealthCare #HealthyDwelling #HealthyHome #HealthyBuildings

  • How many steps have I done today? ?? It’s become a common phrase in our vocabulary, hasn’t it? People are becoming increasingly familiar with digital health technologies - whether they’re tracking their vital signs with an Apple Watch, FitBit, Garmin Venu, Oura Ring, or Samsung Galaxy Watch, or using mobile apps like Calm and Headspace to support their mental well-being. However, fewer people are aware of FDA-approved (aka FDA-authorized) digital health technologies intended to treat specific medical conditions. Our latest peer-reviewed article explores how biophilic design - an “active non-pharmacological ingredient” can be delivered through a digital health platform. We present a patent-pending software ecosystem that integrates biophilic design, health education, self-care and e-commerce to deliver personalized treatments for people living with chronic diseases, such as depression, anxiety, migraine, chronic pain, or cancer. Read our latest LinkedIn article "Can We Have 'FDA-approved' Biophilic Design?" to discover how the future of healthcare might blend digital platforms with nature-inspired design to create therapeutic home environments: https://lnkd.in/ghUygtdK #BiophilicDesign #DigitalHealth #eCommerce #SelfCare #InteriorDesign #HomeDesign #DesignForHealth #TherapeuticHomeEnvironment #HealthCare #HealthcareInnovation #HealthEducation #Wellbeing #HealthyDwelling
