On Purim, Dahlia Rockowitz delivered a petition about the importance of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to Congress. In her blog, she notes: "Together with partners, we gathered thousands of signatures from Americans who know what a vital role the agency plays in protecting our air, water, and communities. Needless to say, this is a precarious moment for our country, as the Trump Administration takes a sledgehammer to both institutions and norms. We are watching in horror as the first Jewish EPA Administrator, Lee Zeldin, slashes landmark rulings and regulations, purges scientists, and closes environmental justice programs." "New York's Gov. Hochul is retreating into a corner at the worst time. Our state is failing to hit its emissions targets. Add to that a hostile presidential administration that largely denies the existence of the climate crisis, and is resolutely committed to investing in polluting fossil fuels, and you’d think the governor would step up to the plate. Hochul’s decision to delay the implementation of New York’s Cap-Trade-and-Invest Program is a deeply misguided one that ignores the connection between the climate crisis and our city’s affordability crisis." Thanks to Jessi Thompson for this piece in Common Dreams! Dayenu's NY Fund Climate Justice campaign is going strong. Join us on March 24 as we rally outside the Governor's office to demand climate justice now. Sign up: https://lnkd.in/d23iUinA

"The EPA is not some new “woke” creation. It was established in 1970 by President Richard Nixon, and for decades its efforts to protect human health and the environment — and yes, even its steps toward climate action — have garnered bipartisan support. In less than two months, Zeldin has shattered the old bipartisan consensus." Dayenu's Director of Campaigns & Partnership Dahlia Rockowitz offers analysis of the egregious betrayal of the mission of the Environmental Protection Agency. For 55 years, the EPA protected our air, water, and communities. Last week, this administration made it about cheap cars and unleashing the fossil fuel industry. This will speed up the rush toward climate devastation, and impose deep harm on frontline communities. Read this letter to the editor from Jennie Rosenn: https://lnkd.in/eM6E47PK So much of what we care about is in peril right now – the air we breathe, the water we drink, the health of our communities, the vibrant future we want to pass on to our children. But what we do in this moment still matters. Now is the time to rally with all our strength, spirit, and strategy! We hope you'll join us. Check out opportunities for action on our site.

Dear EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin: Polluting our planet for profit is not a Jewish value Dayenu’s Rabbi Jennie Rosenn reacts to devastating announcements from EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin ? Since he stepped into the role of Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Lee Zeldin has shown more loyalty to fossil fuel corporations than to the American people and our need for clean air and water and healthy communities.?Zeldin’s actions will endanger Americans’ life, livelihood, and health – the very opposite of?pikuach nefesh, the Jewish commandment to saving a life. Today is Jewish Justice Giving Day! We're partnering with dozens of our Jewish justice colleagues for an inaugural day of giving – amplifying our collective impact for 24 hours of unity and action! This upcoming shabbat is Shabbat shekalim – a powerful reminder of our shared duty to care for one another. The Environmental Protection Agency is under an unprecedented attack? SEND A MESSAGE TO CONGRESS: dayenu.org/defend-the-epa/ In just the past few weeks, the Trump administration has: - Fired over 400 EPA employees - Rescinded billions in funding for clean energy projects, and - Cancelled environmental justice initiatives. Dismantling the EPA and rolling back climate action will make our air dirtier, people sicker, energy more expensive, and harm frontline communities first and worst. That's why all of us need to take urgent action together. Our elected leaders in Congress are one of the few remaining checks on Trump and Musk’s destructive actions – but only if they act urgently ?? ?. Let them know: Protect our health and future – defend the EPA. Send a message directly to your Senators and Representative. https://lnkd.in/e2vVAJWD
