Help with tasks: Allow the person to do as much as possible, and help them with the rest. 3. Be patient: Try not to show frustration, and be understanding of the person's behavior. 4. Communicate clearly: Use simple words and sentences, and speak slowly and distinctly. 5. Make the home safer: Install safety latches, use smoke and gas detectors, and label hot and cold water faucets. 6. Take care of yourself: Eat well, exercise, and get enough rest. 7. Build a support network: Connect with other caregivers through support groups or online communities. 8. Research care options: Eventually, your loved one may need more intensive care, so research options now. 9. Be aware of danger areas: Identify areas in the home that could be dangerous, and take steps to make them safer.
