Last week, Dr. David Chaletsky, CTGI, and Day Kimball Health’s Endoscopy team performed the first-ever WATS3D biopsy for diagnosing Barrett’s esophagus in eastern Connecticut. This cutting-edge procedure, known as Wide Area Transepithelial 3-Dimensional Biopsy (WATS3D), marks a significant advancement in detecting and diagnosing esophageal conditions. Unlike standard forceps biopsies, which sample smaller, localized areas, WATS3D collects a much larger tissue area, greatly improving the accuracy of detecting abnormalities. This technique enhances early detection of Barrett’s esophagus and dysplasia, conditions that can lead to esophageal cancer if left untreated. The 40th Annual Day Kimball Hospital (DKH) Centreville Bank Golf Classic, held at the Connecticut National Golf Club on Friday, Sept. 13 raised more than $126,000 with over 260 participants and volunteers in attendance. Day Kimball Health marked two significant occasions on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2024 with the official ribbon cutting for its new Heart Group and a special tribute commemorating the organization’s 130th anniversary. DKH is proud to have sponsored the Hale YMCA Youth and Family Center's Road to Wellness event, held this morning in Putnam! A special shout-out to our senior leaders—Kyle Kramer, CEO, Andrew Gerardi, VP of Operations, DKMG, and Tenaya Desaulnier, VP of Human Resources—who participated in a 2-hour spin challenge for this important cause. Thanks to the incredible effort of all participants, the event has raised over $35,000 and counting for crucial wellness programs like LIVESTRONG! These factors significantly increase the risk for both breast and lung cancer. Our campaign is dedicated to promoting wellness through education and community. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Putnam Rotary Interact Club for including DKH in their annual backpack drive! As part of their August initiative for TEEG, the Interact Club members voted to extend their efforts and secure additional backpack donations for DKH’s Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Department. On Thursday, September 5, Interact Club co-presidents Sophia Thurber and June Ferraro, accompanied by their advisor Roberta Rocchetti, personally delivered the backpacks to Dr. Peter Neal, Director of Behavioral Health Services, Dr. Andre Bessette, Clinical Director of Outpatient Behavioral Health, Sherrie Wilkinson, Patient Care Coordinator, and Alison LeBlanc, Patient Service Representative for distribution to patients. We are incredibly grateful to this group of driven, compassionate young leaders for the meaningful impact they are having on the well-being of our community.
