Celebrating Women’s History Month: Embracing Opportunity, Overcoming Doubt, and Uplifting Others This month, we honor the wāhine who lead with strength, uplift with aloha and inspire others to rise. At DAWSON, we’re proud to spotlight Katie Harding, our Chief Financial Officer and Chief Human Resources Officer, whose journey embodies kuleana (responsibility), ha‘aha‘a (humility), and lōkahi (unity). Katie didn’t follow a traditional path—instead, she embraced each opportunity that came her way, no matter how uncertain. “I’ve always taken the approach of accepting every challenge and opportunity that comes my way,” she shares. “I love solving hard problems and working with amazing people—and DAWSON gives me both.” Her mana‘o (wisdom) was shaped by her mother, an executive in the construction industry, who taught her to believe in herself, and by a strong female mentor who showed her what leadership looks like in male-dominated spaces. Her advice to the next generation of wāhine: “Work hard. Stay curious. Ask good questions. You don’t have to know everything—you just have to be willing to learn.” Katie’s proudest accomplishment? Her keiki. “At the end of the day, I’m a mom. My kids turned into really cool and smart adults that I love spending time with.” We mahalo Katie for her leadership, resilience, and the lasting impact she’s making through her kuleana to serve the DAWSON ‘ohana. #WomensHistoryMonth #DAWSONOhana #WahineInLeadership #Kuleana #Lōkahi #ManaWahine #AlohaLeadership #NativeHawaiianValues #InspiringWomen

Ke ala ‘ula a Kāne is the Hawaiian name for the spring/vernal equinox. Meaning the “dawning of the path of Kāne” it is a moment of balance—when day and night are of equal length, marking the shift into a season of longer days, of growth and renewal. In Hawaiian culture, the natural world and celestial cycles have long guided our way of life, from navigation to fishing, planting, and harvesting. For kānaka ‘ōiwi (Native Hawaiians), the stars, the sun, and the changing of the seasons were vital to survival and cultural practices. The equinox reminds us of kaulike (balance) and lōkahi (harmony), values that guide us in both our work and our relationships. As we transition into spring, we reflect on the importance of mālama—caring for our land, our people, and the spaces we share. We embrace this time of renewal with gratitude for our ‘ohana and the opportunities ahead. Let’s move forward with purpose, balance, and aloha. #SpringEquinox #Kaulike #Lokahi #BalanceAndRenewal #DAWSONOhana #NativeHawaiian

Celebrating Women’s History Month: Leadership, Mentorship & Legacy Women’s History Month is a time to honor the wāhine (women) who have shaped history, broken barriers, and lifted others along the way. At DAWSON, our Chief Knowledge Officer, Danielle O'Grady, ICP-LEA, CF.APMP, embodies this spirit of aloha—championing leadership, mentorship, and professional growth. Danielle’s career has been shaped by what she calls “random, fortuitous opportunities” made possible by those who saw something in her and opened doors. “Building relationships cultivates trust,” she shares. “When someone opens a door for you, walk through it—it may not open again.” Now, she’s committed to creating those same opportunities for others. For Danielle, Women’s History Month is about more than celebrating achievements—it’s about supporting and uplifting the next generation. “I love watching women break the mold and, when told they can’t do something, respond with, ‘Watch me.’ It’s about walking alongside other women, listening to their voices, and making sure they know their worth.” She credits many role models—women and men—with shaping her path, from her grandmother’s lessons in resilience to the bold leadership of a former New York Assistant Attorney General. And among them, she honors her father: “Because we should celebrate fathers who love, support, and inspire their daughters. Without him, I wouldn’t be anyone close to who I am today.” Her advice to young women entering the workforce? Be authentic, have integrity, and remember—a step backward isn’t always a setback. Sometimes, it’s a slingshot. But more than anything, Danielle’s greatest measure of success is the impact she leaves on others. “At the end of the day, I want to be remembered as someone who truly cared—who helped people become the best version of themselves. If I can leave behind even five people who say that I’ll know I did something right.” This month, we celebrate the wāhine who lead with purpose, lift others as they rise, and create a legacy of empowerment. #WomensHistoryMonth #Leadership #Mentorship #Empowerment

Every year, DAWSON honors members of our ‘ohana for their outstanding leadership, dedication to our values, and commitment to their kuleana. For 2024, the prestigious Kukui Award was given to Christopher Ackert, P.E., our Director of Construction East, for being a “light bearer” for our ‘ohana. The kukui (candlenut tree) is more than just the official state tree of Hawai‘i—it’s a powerful symbol of enlightenment, renewal, and hope in Native Hawaiian culture. A kukui nut lei signifies a light bearer, someone who inspires and uplifts those around them and we recognize 'ohana members who exemplify these characteristics.
