DWT’s national Healthcare M&A team played a critical role in a transaction that will expand comprehensive, world-class healthcare to patients in the Great Plains. Our clients, Black Hills Surgical Hospital—which has been ranked number 6 in the nation out of more than 3,000 hospitals for high quality patient care by Modern Healthcare magazine—and its related surgery centers and medical groups based in Rapid City, SD, and Gillette, WY, were acquired by Sanford Health, the country’s largest rural health system. Under the terms of the deal, Sanford becomes the parent organization of the hospital and of Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Care and associated facilities. Said Lew Papendick, M.D., chair of Black Hills Surgical Hospital: “We’re inspired by Sanford Health’s commitment to being the premier rural health system in the United States and excited to help move that forward in western South Dakota and Wyoming on behalf of our patients.” The DWT Healthcare M&A team was led by Christina Chan and Jason Farber and included Robert G.
