DSA's Clifford Boehmer and Paul Warkentin attended the recent West Newton Rutland Apartments ribbon cutting ceremony in Boston's South End neighborhood. This extensive project included the renovation of 146 affordable rental units in 27 historic brick townhouses, and was the result of a partnership between the Boston Housing Authority and IBA - Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción. Key project features include life safety, accessibility, ventilation and energy efficiency upgrades; the renovation of common areas; and new kitchens and bathrooms, as well as new doors, windows and flooring. In addition, restoring the buildings' original historic character was critically important. Congratulations to all!

Award-winning design with a strong community focus
关于我们
Our best work is achieved in collaboration with involved clients. Design solutions evolve through careful consideration of our clients’ needs, constraints, and dreams. To this we add a commitment to architecture that is both beautiful and respectful of its surroundings. Working within the design studio tradition, we have created an open collegial work environment where education is highly valued; where the exchange of ideas, is encouraged; and where the most advanced technology supports the design process. Our success has allowed us to contribute a portion of our profits to worthy community service organizations, in the belief that strong communities and great architecture are mutually dependent.

DSA is pleased to announce the addition of our newest Designer, Omar Hussein! Omar received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Boston Architectural College (BAC). He brings to DSA several years of experience in affordable and market-rate housing, both renovations and new construction, as well as experience performing surveys of existing buildings for adherence to ADA standards. His BAC thesis, Triple Threat, focused on the aspects of private and public spaces, exploring an intersection that draws a new line defined by one’s own sense of space. Using those aspects, he designed a fitness/wellness center that focused on the user experience, thus shaping the user around the space rather than the space shaping the user. Omar’s Triple Threat project thesis was awarded a commendation from the BAC. He is currently working on 50 Oriol Drive, a former Quality Inn in Worcester that?will be renovated and converted into permanent supportive housing. Omar is also involved in construction administration of the 170 Cottage Street project in Chelsea, a PHIUS 2021 Design Certified new building providing affordable rental housing, and renovation of the 252-unit Meadowbrook Apartments located just outside of Northampton, MA. Omar’s interests outside of architecture include long walks in Boston and Cambridge, traveling, photography, dancing, and gaming. Welcome to the team Omar!

Great team on this one all around!
We’re excited to share the latest developments from our collaboration with the Brookline Housing Authority and Davis Square Architects. This new 6-story building, designed to meet Phius passive house standards, will provide 115 units for seniors and people with disabilities, replacing a previous 60-unit development that no longer met accessibility and amenity needs. The project is progressing swiftly, with wall panels arriving and installation already underway on the second floor. Once framing for the second floor is complete, we’ll continue moving upward, with plans to have all floors framed in the coming months. Additionally, fireproofing on the steel structure of the garden level and first floor is now in progress. This project stands as the largest affordable housing development in Brookline since the 1970s, marking a significant step forward in providing energy-efficient, all-electric homes for seniors and those with accessibility needs. We’re proud to be part of such an impactful and forward-thinking development! Follow along for more updates as we continue to build sustainable, inclusive communities. #DelphiConstruction #AffordableHousing #BrooklineHousing #PassiveHouse #SeniorLiving #Sustainability #ConstructionUpdate

Congratulations DSA designer and artist-in-residence Audrey Parrill on her current art exhibition at Diesel Café in Davis Square! The exhibition features 19 pieces from Audrey's "Light" series, which explores the ways in which light interacts with?everyday objects to make them more magical and surreal. The exhibit is scheduled to be up until the end of December, and Diesel’s hours are 7 to 7 every day. Drop by, grab a coffee or something to eat, and enjoy Audrey's artwork! You can also check out Audrey’s website at https://lnkd.in/eUHnXexV and Instagram @audreyparrillart.

One of DSA's current projects is the renovation of Our Lady’s Guild House located in the Fenway/Kenmore Square neighborhood. Working together with clients Fenway Community Development Corporation and the Planning Office for Urban Affairs (POUA), the renovation is intended to provide more diverse affordable housing options than the building currently offers. This beautiful historic building’s character and integrity will be maintained, and exterior and interior updates will conform to all accessibility requirements. A recent initial public meeting was held for current residents and interested members of the local community, and the event was covered by The Huntington News – follow the link to learn more about the project, including quotes from DSA's Laura Cella-Mowatt, the clients and neighbors too. https://lnkd.in/gW6MTZcx
