🚰 Clean Water for Bhongra Village! 💧 This week, something beautiful happened in North India. In the rural village of Bhongra, where most families have long struggled with access to safe drinking water—a deep borewell (400 feet!) was just completed, and clean water is finally flowing. 🙌 There is no sewage treatment in this village. So most of the available water below ground is polluted. A few of the more wealthier villagers have water resources in their homes. But they do not often share their water with the other poorer villagers because of the caste differences. Approximately 50% of the people in this village belong to the Chamar caste which is also called the Dalits (or the untouchables). So these people must travel to far away villages and then carry water back over very long distances. Sometimes they also have to carry water from the cultivation fields. But the water from the fields is not very clean and it is also very salty to the taste. Getting sick from the water is quite common. Meet a few of the people impacted: 💬 “Our dream came true today… Now I can help my mother by carrying water from this pipe near our house.” – Shani 💬 “I used to buy bottled water for my daughter and wife. Now we have the best water in our own village.” – Ved Prakash 💬 “We prayed to Jesus for good water. Today, our prayers are answered.” – Mohini Devi This borewell was made possible through your generosity. Just what was the extent of delivery driver Kevin Backlund's injuries? We explore this and more on this episode of The True Claims Podcast, with award winning journalist Eric Johnson and attorney Chris Davis of Davis Law Group. ~ It was an ordinary day for former state trooper, now delivery driver Kevin Backlund when a seemingly typical delivery took a deadly turn. Four pit bulls emerged from the property and immediately became aggressive, forcing the driver to take shelter on a nearby trailer, just inches out of the animals' reach. A neighbor, witnessing the attack came not to aid, but to antagonize the now seriously wounded driver, refusing to offer any assistance. After a heroic effort from emergency responders to rescue the driver he began his long journey towards recovery.

🚨 URGENT: PROTECT CRITICAL FUNDING FOR YOUTH IN FOSTER CARE 🚨 As Treehouse hosts its Champions fundraising event today, we face a significant threat to our state funding that could dramatically impact our ability to serve youth in foster care across Washington. The proposed state budget would eliminate nearly ONE-THIRD of Treehouse's annual funding, resulting in approximately 70% fewer students receiving critical educational support. These cuts would affect: - Educational Advocacy programs in 175 school districts - Support for complex education system navigation - Resources for school stability during placement changes - Individualized graduation planning services For nearly 40 years, Treehouse has been the only organization in Washington working at the intersection of education and foster care. Our evidence-based approach has helped increase graduation rates from 36.5% to 51% for youth in foster care.
