We create architecture that enriches the urban experience, transforms environments, and strengthens communities. Our practice covers a broad range of typologies, located in diverse urban areas, from central-city neighborhoods to the growing districts that are vital to the development of each city. Over time, our work has grown in scale and complexity, but our role in all of our projects has remained consistent. We are both architects and advocates—facilitating the complex exchanges between communities, professionals, and government officials required to identify the project’s vision.

Dattner Architects is thrilled to be the Architect for the team selected to design and build the new AirTrain at Newark Liberty International Airport. This prestigious project, awarded by The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey last week, marks a significant milestone in the ongoing redevelopment of one of the nation's busiest airports. The new AirTrain system will replace the existing, outdated system with a state-of-the-art, 2.5-mile elevated rail structure and three new stations. This project is a critical component of the Port Authority's vision to transform Newark Liberty International Airport into a world-class transportation hub. Working within the Tutor Perini Corporation/ O&G Industries, Inc. Design/Build team and with Lead Engineer Parsons Corporation, Dattner Architects is excited to continue the collaboration that led to the winning proposal. ? Dattner Architects' involvement in this project underscores our leadership in the field of transportation architecture and our commitment to creating innovative, resilient, and sustainable public infrastructure solutions.
NEW: The Port Authority has awarded joint-venture firm Tutor Perini/O&G with a design-build contract to replace Newark Liberty International Airport's existing outmoded AirTrain system. The project will include a 2.5-mile elevated rail structure, known as the guideway, and three new stations for the new AirTrain system that will align with the ongoing redevelopment of the airport. “Our major airports are the front doors of this region for the rest of the world and ensuring easy, reliable public transit to and from the airport is critical,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton. “As we embark on the Newark vision plan, a new AirTrain is essential to both meeting increasing volumes at our airports and delivering a world-class passenger experience for Newark Liberty passengers.” Learn more about our plans to reimagine Newark Liberty: https://ow.ly/AT0u50U7qZi #ANewEWR #Aviation #Redevelopment

Earlier this year, Slade Associate Principal Greg Bencivengo traveled to #Copenhagen and #Malmo with Circular San Antonio to research the impact of circular economy at the scale of the city, and the individual building. The cross-disciplinary delegation comprised professionals from government, deconstruction, design, urban farming, waste management, plastics, and more. Reflecting on this research, Greg and colleagues Wei Wang, AIA, LEED AP BD C from Dattner Architects and Hannah Wilson from Arup, recently gave a series of lectures to colleagues and students with the aim of comparing the sustainable design and cultural practices in Copenhagen and NYC, where they live and work. The most recent, a lecture and workshop with M. Arch students in Parsons School of Design - The New School Construction Technologies studio course “The Contemporary Vernacular”, looked at how regenerative technologies can reduce excess material use. The lecture introduced the students to principles of circularity and designing for disassembly as a strategic way of thinking about design, rather than as a prescribed process.

We leaned into being PISSED OFF last week with a spirited talk about the lack of public bathrooms in NYC and the origins of this hostility and resulting humanitarian issue. We talked policy and funding - and even found our way to celebrate a few examples of good public bathroom design. I was proud to moderate the evening’s talk. Thanks to New York Review of Architecture for hosting with Dattner Architects, to NYRA’s Nicolas Kemper and Aaron Timms, to friends Peter Coombe and Jennifer Sage of Sage and Coombe Architects, and to my Dattner Architects colleagues Gabriella Orsi, RA and Troy Lacombe for sharing their experiences— and to our engaged audience.

We are excited to share that our very own Ruth Ro will be speaking at the The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Tri-State Fusion Conference 2024. She will be leading a session titled “Trail Blazing: Becoming a Women-Owned Practice”, alongside Patti Harris, legal counsel from Zetlin & De Chiara LLP on November 20th. This talk will explore Dattner Architects' transformative journey to becoming a certified Women-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE) after six decades of practice. Patricia will provide insights into the legal and structural adjustments necessary for WBE certification, addressing potential challenges and offering strategies for a successful transition. Register to gain insights into key statistics and trends regarding women in architecture and discover the steps to becoming a WBE. https://lnkd.in/dmPykUQJ
