The Building Transparency team had a busy week, dividing and conquering at both NYC Climate Week and the American Center for Life Cycle Assessment (ACLCA) conference in Utah. ?? At Climate Week, our Executive Director, Stacy Smedley, participated in a whirlwind three panels on Tuesday: 1?? FEMA's hosted "Climate Resilient Infrastructure: Building A More Sustainable Future" event, alongside U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s Chris Castro, US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)'s Jennie R. Romer, Esq. and FEMA's Robert Pesapane and Samantha Medlock. 2?? She then rushed to Thornton Tomasetti's office to participate on their hosted panel focusing on pioneering circularity in design and construction, alongside Dattner Architects' Wei Wang, AIA, LEED AP BD C, U.S. Green Building Council's Celeste McMickle, Turner Construction Company's Nelson Russom, and Thornton Tomasetti's Duncan Cox and Julie Pietrzak. 3?? Finally, she breezed across town to attend the NYC screening of the Women in Carbon documentary, where she is featured, and then participated in the panel following, alongside Nucor Corporation's Tabitha Stine and Amari Jones Scriven, and Architecture 2030 senior fellow Yasemin Kologlu. Our Global Director of Policy and Procurement, Katie Poss, then picked things up where Stacy left off, and participated in two events to round out our time at Climate Week: 1?? Katie represented the ECHO project and provided exciting updates on the work of the entire ECHO team, including Building Transparency's leadership on the published schema development, as part of the US PEER event hosted by RMI, Urban Land Institute and Columbia University. 2?? She then participated in a panel focused on regenerative materials and the path to PCR development for Ag Fibers at the Regenerative Metropolis '24 event hosted by New York Passive House, alongside New Frameworks' Jacob Deva Racusin and Ace McArleton and Rodale Institute's Andrew Smith. ?? At the ACLCA conference, our Senior Data and Methodology Manager, Mikaela DeRousseau, presented as part of a session entitled "Looking Upstream: Enhancing data transparency in EPDs via a novel method to classify, quantify and report data specificity in support of Buy Clean policies" alongside Smart EPD's Anna Lasso, Carbon Leadership Forum's Brook Waldman and Harmony Environmental Services LLC's Terrie Boguski. Our Program Director for North America, Vaclav Hasik joined her there and had many meaningful in person meetings, including with our ODCi project partners in attendance, including Christian Donath and William Paddock. It was a whirlwind week, but one that demonstrates the diverse and deep expertise and industry connections the Building Transparency team represents and supports in our work every day to provide the tools and data needed to inspire actions that positively impact our world. Onward!
