We're unapologetically remote!
One of my teammates asked me yesterday if we’ve ever considered moving 5X from remote to in-person. Here are my thoughts on the in person vs remote. Both of them have their pro's and cons. In person for sure can be more productive. Remote opens up a much bigger employee pool. For us a remote culture has been 100% worth it. 1/ We have a truly diverse, global team we wouldn’t have had a chance with if we were stuck competing locally. 2/ Our employee retention rate is higher than most in-person office companies. Remote employees are more focused and committed because they’re not caught up in the daily churn of office politics and constant recruitment pressure. 3/ Our once-a-year in-person meetups are a highlight for everyone. We take a fraction of what we’d spend on maintaining offices and invest it in bringing everyone together for an amazing event. It’s something people genuinely look forward to, and it strengthens our culture in a way that day-to-day office life never could. I'm not saying remote work culture is better than on-site culture. It’s a coin toss really—both have pros and cons. But the real value comes from being unapologetic about the choice you make. Because when you're on the fence about on-site vs remote, employees can sense it. They’re constantly on edge, wondering if they’ll be dragged back into the office. The point is, whatever you choose—remote or in-person have the courage to commit to it. After leaving WeWork, I was burnt out and looking to take a break from the industry. Despite my hesitation I was constantly bombarded with meeting requests from CEOs, startup founders, and banking execs, marketers. They were all wrestling with the same? challenge: “We're drowning in data—but how do we use it?” My pitch to all of them was the same "Focus on building a data platform, here are a list of vendors you can work with. Next integrate all of your source systems. List down 10 most important business goals and work backwards to build the data models and dashboards to support them.
