What is the next AI billion-dollar company? OpenAI's CPO, Kevin Weil, says: - AI models aren't limited by intelligence but by what they're taught. - Next big companies will leverage private data hidden behind enterprise or government walls. - Industries like legal are already doing this, using private data to train specialized models. But I disagree. First, data itself is the real moat. No smart company should sell or license its core data...it's their competitive advantage. If billion-dollar companies emerge from private data, they'll likely be legacy enterprises with their own data, training models internally to license out insights or knowledge. But would they really do it? Take chemical companies, for instance: their data on experiments, formulations, and products is their gold. Why share or license what's crucial to their competitiveness unless it's part of an entirely new business model? Unlikely. Second, there might be limited cases where licensing data could work. For example, anime or manga companies licensing their drawings to build generative AI for videos or games, while retaining royalties. That might be feasible. But broadly, most industries won't willingly share valuable private data unless these new AI ventures steal or scrape it...just like how OpenAI did. What do you think?

Human-level AI isn't arriving within the next two years—claims otherwise are exaggerated. ? ? Expect highly capable systems trained on massive data, capable of answering most reasonable questions. ? These systems will feel like having a personal assistant, but they won't be genuine problem-solvers or inventors. Why can't AI make its own discoveries or invent anything? ? AI today relies heavily on data and learned patterns; genuine invention or discovery requires creativity, intuition, and a deep understanding of context.....qualities AI doesn't inherently possess. Sam Altman is not sleeping well and is burning $7B a year. Kai-Fu Lee, CEO of 01.AI, said it’s clear open source will be the winner. He points out that OpenAI and Anthropic believed they could build a better closed model, only to be shocked when a model “as good, or nearly as good,” emerged at a fraction of their cost. OpenAI’s $7B operating expenses in 2024 are far greater than Deep Seek’s 2% of that. The question is whether such massive spending is even sustainable.?
