A little snow ?? couldn't stop VCU basketball fans from showing up, cheering loud, and recycling right with #GreenScanr! ?? Last Wednesday GreenScanr teamed up with Virginia Commonwealth University Athletics and GFL Environmental Inc. to drive landfill diversion and recycling education for students and fans at the Siegel Center. ?? With GreenScanr’s advanced AI item recognition, fans sorted their recyclables with confidence, reducing contamination and keeping more waste out of landfills. Our new recycling tips feature also helped with trickier items, offering guidance like: ? "Dump out your popcorn before recycling the box!" ? "Tear off and recycle the lid of your pizza box—leave the greasy bottom in landfill!" With the help of GreenScanr, Rams fans: ?? Recycled nearly 700 items ?? Produced a total Carbon Avoidance of 13.52kg ?? Diverted 350+ plastic items from entering landfills The top 3 recyclers of the evening even went home with a pair of VCU basketball tickets, a pennant, and a Rams bobblehead! It was a GREEN Christmas at Busch Gardens Williamsburg! ?? ?? Over 20,000 people from across the country made the venture to enjoy the lights, food, and entertainment to be found at Busch Gardens' iconic Christmas Town! ?? After enjoying a delicious meal in the Festhaus or warming up with a cup hot chocolate ? , park attendees brought their holiday spirit and used GreenScanr to help sort out recyclables and compost from their meal before tossing the rest! With the help of GreenScanr, Busch Gardens: - Avoided 5.91kg of CO2 - Recycled over 200 plastic cups and aluminum cans - Composted 34% of scanned items (This was the first time park attendees could compost at the park!) ?? Lets talk about aluminum and Virginia. Daily around 7 million aluminum cans are sold in Virginia. Of which about 4 million are recycled ??. Guess where the rest go? thats right LANDFILL. This is approximatley 37 metric tons of aluminum going to landfill daily. This is a waste of energy and resources. Also the landfills are getting full, so we will need more.
