You know who you are: An Open Letter to Overseas Employers, Recruiters, and Candidates of overseas agencies. I hope this message reaches you with the intent to foster better relationships and more effective interactions in our hiring process. Recently, I posted a job opening for a C# .NET Developer in NYC. The role required 10 years of financial experience with a strong background in derivatives, and it was clearly outlined as a hybrid position. While I received submissions extremely fast, almost immediately, many were unfortunately unrelated to the requirements. I understand placing candidates can be challenging, and I appreciate the pressure you may face in placing your candidates. However, it seems that, at times, the key details outlined in job postings are grossly overlooked. For example, when the position specifies financial and derivatives knowledge, it can be frustrating to receive submissions with experience only in healthcare, manufacturing, or retail. Similarly, when we emphasize a local candidate in the Metropolitan NY area, out-of-state submissions aren't helpful. This is a huge waste of time, because I review every single submission. Another concern is when third-party resumes are submitted for positions where we have clearly stated that we cannot work with third parties. Additionally, sponsored job posts, which involve significant costs, often result in the same volume of irrelevant applications. This not only strains budgets but also affects the hiring process for deserving candidates who meet the criteria. There are also issues with inaccurate resume information, switched candidates after pre-screens, and situations where personal emergencies arise after hiring, impacting the engagement. I also often see incomplete LinkedIn profiles, pictures showing the backs of the heads, or resumes that use only initials, which further complicates the hiring process. These challenges make it difficult to build trust and move forward confidently. While I understand the need to place candidates swiftly and the pressures associated with it, it’s crucial for all of us to focus on transparency and accuracy. This way, you can provide qualified, talented individuals with the opportunities they deserve, while ensuring that businesses like mine can grow and thrive with the right people. I hope this letter helps open the door to better practices and clearer communication going forward. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Michael Tsafas.
