????Science Feature Friday: Breakthrough in Understanding Breathing Disorders???? Scientists at Berlin's Institute for Cell Biology and Neurobiology have made a fascinating discovery about Congenital Central Hypoventilation Syndrome (CCHS) - a serious respiratory condition affecting newborns.????? They've identified previously unknown "dB2 neurons" in the medulla that play a critical role in breathing regulation. This could be a game-changer for understanding and potentially treating this life-threatening condition! Using DSI's Buxco Whole Body Plethysmography (WBP) technology, they were able to test the effects of these neurons by measuring parameters of respiration such as volumes, rates, and apneas during various gas challenges in adult and neonatal mice. ?? This research opens new doors for understanding the neural control of breathing at its most fundamental level. ??Read the full publication: https://lnkd.in/dNepnwkF ??Learn more about DSI’s Buxco WBP: https://lnkd.in/g5pHyJTF #MedicalResearch #Neuroscience #RespiratoryResearch #CCHS?

?????Science Feature Friday: How Rickettsia Infection Alters Tick Behavior????? Ever wondered if parasites can manipulate their hosts? A groundbreaking study in the journal?Life?reveals how Rickettsia bacteria may be pulling the strings on tick behavior. Researchers studying Dermacentor reticulatus ticks (the ornate dog tick) discovered that those infected with Rickettsia bacteria displayed noticeably different behaviors compared to their uninfected counterparts. This suggests that these tiny bacterial passengers may actually be influencing tick activity and host-seeking behavior! The team monitored various parameters, including questing behavior, movement patterns, and response to environmental stimuli, to assess how behavior might be affected using the Panlab Smart video-tracking system Key findings: ??Rickettsia-positive ticks exhibited distinct behavioral patterns ??Researchers observed differences in questing behavior (how ticks position themselves to find hosts) ??Movement patterns and responses to environmental stimuli also differed This research opens fascinating questions about parasite-host relationships and could potentially impact our understanding of disease transmission. Are these bacteria essentially "hijacking" tick behavior to increase their own chances of spreading? ?? Read the full publication here:?https://lnkd.in/g_3W9rbn ??
