Is AI just a fad? No way. “Do” believe the hype.? Okay, well maybe not all of it. Ignore some of the more outlandish claims that have sadly become a part of the AI hype cycle. Instead, let’s look at the cold, hard facts. According to an IEEE survey, 58% of leaders say AI will be the most important tech in 2025. Statista predicts the GDP of the USA will increase by 15% as a result of AI by 2030. This is good news for chief data leaders, but… It also means, if you’re not up to speed with AI yet – you’re going to fall behind. It’s not too late. We’re still in the early stages of the AI revolution. The question is – how can you best use AI in your teams and workflows? → Automate Tasks: The obvious one. Get AI to do routine, repetitive tasks – e.g. data processing, analytics, and simple decision making → Accelerate Development: Get results more quickly, e.g. faster drug discovery and patient trials in life sciences → Strengthen Security: Detect cybersecurity threats in real-time and keep your data safe → Personalize Learning: Adaptable learning systems to train teams more effectively → Make Informed Decisions: Uncover insights you might ordinarily miss Those are the benefits. But how do you get there? Here are key skills you should focus on developing yourself and within your teams. → Software and AI Engineering Skills: Build and adapt AI tools that meet specific data needs → Ethical Practices: Make sure you’re using AI responsibly and fairly → Data Analysis: Understand and interpret the data provided by AI As a data leader, your role is constantly changing as AI tech shifts. Adaptability is key. Data Leaders Network helps you stay more agile. You’ll connect with other data leaders and experts in various fields, sharing skills, best practices, and new methods. AI is the future. Now’s the time to lay the groundwork. What steps are you taking to integrate AI into your organization right now?

GenAI is set to create an extra $340 bn per year in global banking value, according to McKinsey & Company. But none of this happens without your strategic data leadership. Take the State Bank of India for example. Data leaders there are using AI to build advanced data lakes for more efficiency and data-driven decision-making. How can you seize this opportunity? → Future-Ready Foundations: GenAI is only as good as the data it feeds on. Create clean, adaptable data ecosystems by refining your data warehouses, pipelines, and governance structures for AI readiness. → Develop Governance Superpowers: Use AI to detect compliance risks, automate error-spotting, and standardize workflows. → Empower Teams as AI Innovators: Provide training that does more than just teach AI skills but also encourages people to explore new use cases and push boundaries. → Partner for AI Success: Collaborate with strategic AI providers, experts, and other data leaders to fast-track your initiatives and minimize risk. Senior data leaders who act now will be able to make faster, data-driven decisions and build operational resilience. Ready to lead the data and AI revolution with Data Leaders Network? What’s your strategy for integrating AI into your data management processes?

A recent Meta “hackathon” tasked 200 programmers with finding ways to apply Meta’s Llama AI system to UK public services. During the event, Meta awarded development funding for projects that aim to reduce waiting times in NHS Accident and Emergency (A&E) departments. UK AI minister Feryal Clark said that regulation around using AI in public services would be proportionate enough to spur innovation without posing safety risks. So far, the UK has taken a “light touch” approach to regulation to strike a balance between innovation and safe, transparent, and fair AI. Unlike the EU's more prescriptive AI Act, the UK's more flexible approach gives sector-specific regulators the freedom to develop their own strategies. For example, in healthcare, this adaptability could unlock the potential of AI solutions like Meta’s Llama to enhance patient outcomes. Here at Data Leaders Network, we recently took part in ISPOR Europe 2024. Many of the discussions were around exactly that – how to use AI in healthcare and life sciences safely and ethically. Here are a few highlights from the conference: → ?????????? ???? ???? ???????????? ??????????????????: Enhancing insights through machine learning, predictive analysis, and causal inference.? → ???????????????????? ???? ?????? ??????????: The session, "Can We Trust AI Output? A Trustworthy AI Perspective for HEOR and RWE," looked at ways to improve the reliability of AI outputs in health research. → ???? ?????? ?????????????? ???????????? ?????? ??????????????: Another hot topic was how to use AI when navigating complex pricing strategies and supporting patient healthcare access. → ????????-?????????? ???????????????? (??????): Integrating AI with RWE with a focus on providing deeper and more accurate data analysis to enhance clinical practice. We’ll go deeper into these topics and others from the ISPOR conference over the coming weeks, so don’t forget to follow us for more. In the meantime, what recent life science AI developments excite you the most? Is it faster drug discovery, personalized medicine, predictive diagnostics, enhanced imaging techniques, or something else? #RealWorldEvidence #AIRegulation #EUAI #ISPOREurope #AICommunity

Mickey Mouse AI? Quite the opposite… Disney’s new Office of Technology Enablement is a serious affair that’s focused on integrating AI and mixed reality. It will lead to new and exciting entertainment products, but has been met with a lot of internal resistance. It’s understandable – people worry about losing their jobs What can life sciences data leaders learn from this? The main thing is new tech often causes uncertainty and discomfort. But, as Disney has shown, good leadership can make a big difference. Here are a few things to consider when implementing new AI tech into your team workflows. →?Communicate the Vision Clearly: People need to believe the new tools are there to help them, not replace them. Let people try it out and see with their own eyes how it will improve research, patient care, and other areas of life sciences. →?Lead by Example: Show your enthusiasm for AI projects by sharing everything you’re doing and planning as openly as possible to quell fears. →?Involve Teams Early: We cannot stress this enough – the sooner various departments get involved and feel like they’re part of the change, the more they will support it. Don’t shut people out of the process, as this breeds fear and resentment – involve them at every stage instead. →?Provide Training and Support: Look for opportunities to train up your team and get them comfortable using the new tech. It won’t seem so scary once they realize its strengths and limitations. →?Address Concerns Transparently: Don’t dismiss anyone’s fears. Just be honest, even if (or especially if) you’re feeling some uncertainty yourself. Openly talk about how AI will affect workflows, painting a true picture without glossing over any of the details. If you apply these strategies, you’ll be more likely to enter an exciting new era of progress together with the rest of your team, just like Disney is doing. At DLN, we’re all about facilitating open and honest conversations about AI and data. Our members share their expertise and insights freely within the community. Feel free to share with us – how are you integrating AI into your organization? Do you have a game plan for overcoming resistance to change? #DataAnalytics #DataLeadership #TalentAttraction #DataStrategy #ChiefDataOfficer

The good, the bad and the ugly of AI in life sciences… THE GOOD: → Faster drug discovery, genomics, and clinical trials by automating repetitive tasks → Automated document creation and sharing for improved collaboration → Process and analyze huge datasets quickly to speed up decisions THE BAD: → GenAI can make mistakes in report writing, so care is needed → Rapid change makes change management tricky THE UGLY: → Balancing risk and reward when dealing with life-saving products → Data privacy concerns in sensitive areas like patient records and genetic information. Chief Data Officers (CDOs) are always looking for innovative ways to boost productivity and get more out of their data. But in a field like life sciences, you have to balance it with risk. The question is not whether to adopt AI, but how to best leverage it for efficiency and impact, while minimizing risk at the same time. If you’re a data leader in life sciences, how are you managing to balance AI risk and reward? #DataAnalytics #DataLeadership #TalentAttraction #DataStrategy #ChiefDataOfficer
