First light x4! We’re thrilled to share this first set of images from our hyperspectral satellite, Tanager-1, designed to monitor and help mitigate methane emissions. The first set of imagery is of Karachi, Pakistan, and was taken on September 19th, 2024. Tanager-1 is the first of a planned hyperspectral constellation (made possible by the Carbon Mapper Coalition) that combines Planet’s cutting-edge aerospace and smallsat bus technology with the state-of-the-art imaging spectrometer design developed at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. https://lnkd.in/gFCj_68v

This dataset presents a precise, scalable, and affordable solution for measuring forest dynamics and is an indispensable tool for emerging voluntary carbon markets and mitigating deforestation. Forest Carbon Monitoring leverages Planet’s extensive archive of PlanetScope imagery, a global library of airborne and spaceborne LiDAR data, and AI processing to equip stakeholders with a cost-effective way to monitor forested areas—scaling from a single tree to the entirety of the Amazon Rainforest. WE’VE CRACKED IT! The Amogy team has successfully sailed the world’s first carbon-free, ammonia-powered maritime vessel. Retrofitted with our ammonia-to-electrical power system, the NH3 Kraken—a 1957 tugboat originally equipped with diesel generators and electric motors—took its historic maiden voyage on the Hudson River, powered by green ammonia, emitting zero carbon emissions.
