    I can’t believe that Dash of Social has turned EIGHT YEARS OLD today! ?? Having started this business when I was only 19, I’ve spent some time this morning looking back on the past eight years and feeling grateful that I get to run a business I love, in the way I want to run it. It only felt fitting to share the top eight lessons I’ve learned throughout this time: 1?? Time is money. I’m constantly looking for ways that I can optimize my productivity and add more time back into my schedule. Along with that, I will *always* value having freedom with my time more than a hefty client load. 2?? Relationships are important. The majority of our clients come to us through referrals. Being able to build solid relationships and connections with great people can truly help you to go so far. 3?? Your gut doesn’t lie. Any time I had a bad gut feeling about moving forward with a project or opportunity but did it anyway, 9 times out of 10, my gut was right. Trust your instincts and act accordingly! 4?? You don’t always need corporate experience before you start a business. I can’t tell you how many times people tried to persuade me to work for another marketing agency in a 9-5 before I went all in on my own company. I’m grateful that I stayed true to what *I* wanted to do and believed in myself because here I am, eight years later, still running a great business without ever having a corporate job. 5?? Your team is your greatest asset. I would not be able to do what I do without my incredible team alongside me. Trying to do everything yourself is difficult, and unnecessary, and investing in a talented team that you can trust can take you so far. 6?? There’s no such thing as competition. This opinion may be subjective, but I truly don’t believe that I have competition. There is no other marketing agency that offers exactly what I do and follows the exact same processes. Your clients will always hire you for you! I deeply cherish the relationships I have with other agencies and will *always* find ways to support them and refer clients to them. 7?? Clear, quick, and consistent communication is one of the best skills to have to be successful. People want to know that you’re doing what you say you’re going to do, when you say you’re going to do it. 8?? Time away from the screen is important, and working less will help you to do MORE. I’ve prioritized giving myself rest on Fridays so that I can come back on Mondays feeling fully ready to tackle my to-do list. I can’t wait to see what this next year brings. Thank you to all who have supported me along the way! ??

    Do you have a goal to delegate your marketing? It all depends on when the time is right. Here’s to know if, and when, you’re ready to delegate: 1?? You don't have the time for it. How often have you told yourself, “I’ll get to writing a social media post tomorrow” several days in a row and have yet to write said social media post? If you have full intentions to write social media content but find that it keeps getting pushed to the bottom of the to-do list because you have too many other things on your plate, this is a sign that you may not have the time that you thought you did to dedicate to your marketing. In other words, it’s time to bring someone else in to ensure that months don’t float by without any new social media posts being published. 2?? You're not an expert. Something that takes you 5 hours to learn and complete could only take 1 hour for an expert. Imagine what else you could accomplish in all of that time if you took that task off your plate and handed it to someone else! Additionally, why throw spaghetti at the wall and hope that it sticks? Working with an expert ensures that they have your best interests at heart and a solid strategy in place to get real results. 3?? Your time is being pulled away from revenue-generating activities. Have you found yourself neglecting to complete important revenue-generating activities, such as networking and sales outreach, because you’re trying to focus on your marketing? It’s important to prioritize the parts of your business that will directly bring in the money.     In the past month and a half, I’ve pitched myself to 22 podcasts, and 12 of those pitches were accepted with scheduled interviews ?? Although I’m not a PR expert by any means, I created a pitching process for myself that allows me to connect with the right podcast hosts at the right time, with unique and out-of-the-box potential interview topics.     Supporting Blue Lotus Healing Arts with their social media presence throughout the past 7 months has been a true joy ?? Co-founders Kirsten and Kathleen, their office manager Laura, and I have set up monthly meetings where they can all share what’s happening in the studio: ?? New staff members that have been hired ?? Upcoming workshops and promotions that are being planned ?? Timely tips as they relate to the season and their services — acupuncture, energy healing, massage therapy, and yoga Every time I chat with them, I’m left with several pages of notes that can be turned into social media posts and I always feel so jazzed about what’s to come for them. Kirsten and Kathleen are incredibly knowledgeable, and I love having the opportunity to learn from them and hear first-hand the positive impact they make on their clients’ wellness.     Just because a social media post received a lower number of likes doesn’t mean that it performed poorly. Anyone can mindlessly scroll on their phone and double tap a post without actually reading the caption or absorbing the information, which is why we often don’t consider post likes to be the be-all and end-all for determining content success. In reality, there are so many more metrics that hold much more weight for the success of a social media post, such as: ?? Comments ?? Shares ?? Saves ?? Website clicks Why do these matter more? They require a bigger lift, as the individual actually has to take the time to write out a comment, share the post with a friend, save the post and remember to go back to it later, and click on your website because they want to learn more. If you see that your post has a lower number of likes but has a decent amount of actions like the above, don’t discount it from your high performing content.

    Reminder: it’s crucial to remain consistent with your marketing at every season, even when you’re busy and especially when you’re slow. I recently had a client ask me if we should slow down their marketing during June-August, as that period often brings a lull in business for them. That’s something that many businesses here in New England face during the summer, so it’s not uncommon, but it may cause you to think that you should take a step back since people aren’t “actively buying” or “actively spending” right now. It’s the opposite that’s true. When things are slow, that’s when you’ll want to at least maintain, if not speed up, your current marketing efforts and output. People may not be buying at that time, but they are: ?? Following you ?? Seeing your content ?? Remembering what you shared ?? Holding onto that information for when they ARE ready to buy If you go silent, will they remember you? Likely not. Don’t discount the importance of being consistent, regardless of what season your business is in.
