Creating breakthrough technologies for national security.
关于我们
DARPA is an agency of the U.S. Department of Defense with a singular and enduring mission: to make pivotal investments in breakthrough technologies for national security. The Agency explicitly reaches for transformational change instead of incremental advances. To do so, it works within an innovation ecosystem that includes academic, corporate and governmental partners, with a constant focus on the Nation’s military Services, which work with DARPA to create new strategic opportunities and novel tactical options. DARPA comprises approximately 220 government employees in six technical offices, including nearly 100 program managers, who together oversee about 250 research and development programs. DARPA goes to great lengths to identify, recruit and support excellent program managers—extraordinary individuals who are at the top of their fields and are hungry for the opportunity to push the limits of their disciplines. These leaders, who are at the very heart of DARPA’s history of success, come from academia, industry and government agencies for limited stints, generally three to five years. That deadline fuels the signature DARPA urgency to achieve success in less time than might be considered reasonable in a conventional setting. Program managers address challenges broadly, spanning the spectrum from deep science to systems to capabilities, but ultimately they are driven by the desire to make a difference. They define their programs, set milestones, meet with their performers and assiduously track progress. But they are also constantly probing for the next big thing in their fields, communicating with leaders in the scientific and engineering community to identify new challenges and potential solutions. DARPA is always on the lookout for outstanding individuals who can meet our demanding needs in the Agency’s technical and support offices. Interested individuals may submit a resume/CV to [email protected].

????Getting new technology into the hands of cyber operators faster is the goal of Constellation – a collection of pilot programs led by U.S. Cyber Command and DARPA aimed at rapidly advancing cyber capabilities . A joint team recently conducted an operational test and evaluated one of those programs, Cyber Analytics for Network Defense and Response Options (CANDOR). They drastically shortened the design, development, and testing of CANDOR from months to weeks with consistent integration with U.S. Army Cyber Command. Details: https://lnkd.in/eBVjMg9v

Today’s #WashingtonPost highlighted the #DARPATriageChallenge, which aims to save more lives by completely revolutionizing the way we medically triage. The piece opined, “What if machines and humans worked together?” How do you think #machinelearning and robots could improve triage and benefit the future of medicine? ICYMI, New York University researchers developed a new tool under our Perceptually-enabled Task Guidance (PTG) program. This program aims to enhance the effectiveness of augmented reality (AR) technology in training scenarios. The article below links to the paper?and a video demonstrating how the tool identifies patterns, pinpoints areas of difficulty, and optimizes AR-assisted training programs for improved learning outcomes and real-world performance. While the paper delves into using this tool for helicopter co-pilots in an AR flying simulation, it's important to note that its potential extends far beyond this case. The adaptability of this training technology means it can be applied to a wide range of complex physical tasks, offering a versatile solution to help individuals enhance their skill sets. Enter HuBar, a novel visual analytics tool designed by #NYUTandon researchers to summarize and compare task performance sessions in AR — such as AR-guided simulated flights — through the analysis of performer behavior and cognitive workload. By providing deep insights into pilot behavior and mental states, HuBar enables researchers and trainers to identify patterns, pinpoint areas of difficulty, and optimize AR-assisted training programs for improved learning outcomes and real-world performance. “While pilot training is one potential use case, HuBar isn't just for aviation,” explained Claudio Silva, NYU Tandon Institute Professor in the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department, who led the research with collaboration from Northrop Grumman Corporation (NGC). “HuBar visualizes diverse data from AR-assisted tasks, and this comprehensive analysis leads to improved performance and learning outcomes across various complex scenarios.” “HuBar could help improve training in surgery, military operations and industrial tasks,” said Silva, who is also the co-director of the Visualization and Data Analytics Research Center (VIDA) at NYU. ?? Come forge the future of manufacturing with us. Friday, Nov. 15, is the deadline to apply to join our "Freedom's Forge 2.0" workshop, Jan. 22-24 in Houston. The "Freedom's Forge 2.0" effort is focused on transforming manufacturing, maintainability, and testing capabilities. The strategy aims to both rapidly field new concepts as well as accelerate existing production assets to ensure we can adapt and scale to surge defense production when needed. New ideas often live at the intersection of different disciplines, and by bringing diverse perspectives the workshop intends to stimulate new insights to solve critical problems. We are seeking applications from researchers, engineers, and subject matter experts; non-traditional performers including small businesses, academic and research institutions, and first-time government contractors are strongly encouraged to apply. For more information and the link to our upcoming workshop please visit: https://lnkd.in/gwtq4KPD #ManufacturingInnovation #FutureOfManufacturing

Did you know that we have a program specifically tailored to immerse military and government civilian leaders into the world of DARPA? Our Service Chiefs Fellows Program (SCFP) is a three-month fellowship that provides participants with insight into cutting-edge technology while potentially facilitating the development of future DARPA technologies. And the best part? DARPA fully funds it so the participant’s assignment unit incurs zero cost. Two Army Medical Service Corps Officers from the current cohort share their experience in this blog post: https://lnkd.in/eu8fSpmn

Part of Allied success in WWII was America's commitment and ability to rapidly shift commercial manufacturing to support military needs -- enabling what FDR called "the great arsenal of democracy." It's important to ensure our country has a similar flexibility and capacity today. Through DARPA's "Freedom's Forge 2.0" initiative, we're working to reimagine U.S. manufacturing to make it agile and scalable to respond to any future needs, should they arise. The ability to responsively and sustainably surge materiel production on demand is an incredibly complex and multidimensional challenge. Identifying ways to do this well requires a breadth of stakeholders, so we're inviting you to share your ideas and experience. We strongly encourage non-traditional performers including small businesses, academic and research institutions, and first-time government contractors to apply. Space is limited and the deadline to apply is Friday, Nov. 15, to be considered for our "Freedom's Forge 2.0" workshop, to be held Jan. 22-24 in Houston. https://lnkd.in/gwtq4KPD
