Dar-us-Sakina is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing inclusive opportunities and support to individuals with disabilities and their caregivers in the Muslim community of Houston. Our platform is a safe space for people of all abilities. We inspire the community to abandon stigmas and embrace individuals with disabilities with empathy and respect. Together, we are better! Our programming focuses on three service areas: Education, Support, and Community Awareness. Educational Programs: Sakina Sunday School- at Spring Branch Islamic Center Sakina Sunday School- at Brand Lane Islamic Center Sakina Sunday School- at Masjid Al Salam Sakina Sunday School- at Pearland Islamic Center Teen Adult Program Support Services: Power Moms Support Group Power Dads Support Group Family Events Education & Resource Training Mental Health Workshops Zakat Program (for families in crisis) Community Awareness: Sakina Internship Program Volunteer Enrichment Program Awareness Tables and Events Youth Inclusion Training From our interns to our Board Members, every voice counts! We are passionate about serving the special needs community and enjoy seeing the growth in our team members along the way.

    Special needs parenting requires a comprehensive support system. Dar-us-Sakina engages caregivers on a monthly basis with training sessions on topics ranging from special education, behavior management, and guardianship to self care and promoting healthy relationships. Caregivers learn and engage with one another, all while their special needs dependents have a great time with volunteers in our respite area. Well informed and well supported caregivers have the ability to achieve the best possible outcomes for their children!
