Worcester Polytechnic Institute hosted an open house at one of our recently completed renovation projects for Stratton Hall located in the center of campus in Worcester, MA. The DOC core project team gathered for this momentous milestone. Originally built in 1894, this four-story 32,000-square-foot building houses the Department of Mathematical Sciences. This full gut renovation includes new classrooms, study areas, faculty offices, and an area for graduate student teaching assistants. The project includes a major elevator addition that connects the building to the Laurie A. Leshin Global Project Center next door and brings accessibility up to modern standards. Upgrades to the building include lighting, heating and air conditioning, and new energy-efficient insulation in the attic and walls. The project was completed on time and budget for the start of the new school year. DOC staff included in the team photo (left to right) are Christine Jablonski, Mike Dame, Liz Anthes, Peter L'Hommedieu, Jeremy Reardon, Kristen Blackbird, and Mike Kornbluth. DOC Team members from our Miami office got together this summer for an event at Topgolf in Miami Gardens. The group had the chance to test their golf skills while having a good time at this unique driving range experience. It was also a chance for everyone to meet the summer intern who is working with our construction team at one of our projects in Miami.

Recently spotted at one of our construction sites on the campus of Amherst College is the statue of Henry Ward Beecher wearing a hard hat, safety vest, and holding a shovel. Beecher, Amherst class of 1834, was a well-known clergyman, social reformer, abolitionist, and popular public speaker during the mid to late 1800s. Our construction team is currently working on the Climate Action Plan, a campus energy system decarbonization project, throughout many of the buildings during this summer. We would like to think that Beecher would have approved of the work now being done on campus in response to climate change.

Amherst College produced this excellent video about the campus decarbonization project that we are working on with them. This video captures the scope of this effort currently going on their campus. Our construction crews are working very hard this summer to help move this project closer to completion.
From fossil fuels to renewable: You'll like the energy at #AmherstCollege! ?? Our #ClimateAction Plan will decarbonize the campus energy system by 2030. This critical infrastructure project requires retrofitting most campus buildings and the installation of new underground pipes and geothermal wells. We are one of only a small number of schools nationwide taking on a project of this magnitude.
