As raw materials become increasingly scarce and more costly to extract, keeping resources in circulation is crucial. Where resources are kept in circulation, waste and pollution are reduced. At Danfoss, our circularity ambition addresses our existing product portfolio and our new product development. We invest in circularity to be responsible for our own environmental impact and to maintain, and improve, our competitiveness. As part of the Circularity in Plastics (CIP) project, Danfoss and 16 industry leaders explored how to take responsibility for the end of life of products by testing take-back, disassembly, and recycling models. In Denmark alone, up to 500,000 thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) are discarded yearly, highlighting the need for circular solutions. In 2024, we tested recycling options and launched a take-back pilot to reuse these materials in new products of the same high quality Danfoss is known for, but with significantly lower embodied emissions. At the CIP Conference held last month, we unveiled a TRV prototype made from recycled plastics, demonstrating how circularity can be applied in practice. While further development is needed before the recycled TRV reaches private homes, this innovation proves that circularity is possible when industry partners collaborate. Between 2007-2020, ProjectZero has reduced energy-related CO2 emissions by 66%, and 32% of those reductions are from energy efficiency initiatives.??? ??? Today is World Energy Efficiency Day! ? Improving energy efficiency performance is the quickest and most affordable way to decarbonize our economy and ensure reliable and sustainable energy whilst increasing our energy resilience. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), energy efficiency improvements can deliver a third of the energy-related emission reductions needed to reach the 2050 Net Zero Scenario. Therefore, energy efficiency will be critical to succeed with the green transition.? ? Open 24/7, hospitals consume large amounts of energy, nearly three times the average commercial building. Danfoss Climate Solutions is decarbonizing healthcare with Danfoss technologies. ? In 2024, Danish hospital Sygehus S?nderjylland partnered with Danfoss, the local District Heating utility, and the local municipality to develop a retrofit solution for their outdated heating and cooling system.? The hospital’s gas boilers were replaced by two highly efficient heat pumps, combined with heat recovery, to benefit from synergies between heating and cooling and ensure thermal comfort and cooling of the medical equipment.?? For Sygehus S?nderjylland, the hospital expects to reduce the amount of energy it purchases by 28,300 MWh each year. During surplus periods, the hospital will be able to supply 12,500 MWh of excess heat to the district heating grid, equal to an annual heat consumption of 740 Danish households.? We are committed to driving competitive decarbonization together with our customers, creating value with leading positions, sustainable innovation, and leading application know-how. In 2024 we continued to make significant progress in sustainability and are ahead of our plans to decarbonize our own operations. Highlights include: - Continued decoupling of our sales growth from emissions, reducing our scope 1 and 2 emissions by 19% as we work toward our ambitious 90% reduction target by 2030.? - The signing of a power purchase agreement covering 100% green electricity for our campuses in Haiyan, China, reducing carbon emissions by 40,000 tons annually from 2025, equivalent to 33% of Danfoss’ emissions in China and 9% globally.? - We launched our supplier engagement program, the ‘Green Ask’ initiative, covering 40% of our EUR 3.5 bn purchase spend, helping us to enhance data on sourced products and identify decarbonization opportunities.?? - We have implemented our Danfoss Circularity Framework, Sustainable Design Guide, and toolbox, targeting 80% of newly developed products launched to be covered by our circularity approach by 2030.
