We cannot wait to have our new home up and running soon! Thank you so much to Studio Axis for bringing this vision to life.
Behind the Scenes at The Damien Center... Seeing a project come together is one of the biggest rewards of this work. It takes so many talented individuals to bring a vision to life! Indiana’s oldest and largest HIV/AIDS service organization, Damien Center, was very clear about their direction to the StudioAXIS design team from our first interview. Their new center was not to resemble a cold, unfriendly doctor’s office. Instead, Damien Center wanted this new building to put forward a relaxed, welcoming and lively gathering spot that celebrated life. In one stop a client can access a clinic, a pharmacy, social services, a food pantry, and have lunch in a light-infused cafeteria. It was important to bring natural light into the main lobby with clearstory windows, high ceilings and bright white walls that feature wood “ribs”. The building’s exterior skin is comprised predominately of brick and glass panels that have metal accents with open air terraces that allow people the opportunity to meet informally outside. The main entrance from Washington Street is a multi-story glazed elevator core wrapped with an artist’s mural which will be viewed from cars passing by. This project is getting close to completion, and we can't wait to celebrate with this incredible team! Grants allow us to provide specific services - be that housing or HIV case management. Your gifts allow us to provide other services like our Colby Palmer Food Pantry because wellness isn't just healthcare, its having a stable home, its having food on the table, its thinking of the whole person.
