If our planning application is approved, during operations we will require 10 shotcrete operators for our underground gold-silver-copper mine in Tyrone. Our planning application is currently moving through the final stages of the planning process. The shotcrete operator will be part of the mining team, responsible for operating the shotcrete unit and spraying shotcrete in the designated areas of the mine and will also work with the construction team. The personal requirements for this role will be education to GCSE level or equivalent and a good understanding of operating heavy-duty machinery. Did you know that Gold in the Sperrins isn't a new discovery? In 1652, Gerald Boate documented gold in the Moyola River, just 20 miles east of the Curraghinalt deposit. However, it wasn’t until the 1970s that modern mineral exploration began in Northern Ireland, focusing on the Tyrone Volcanic Belt. From 1982-1999 Ulster Minerals and its successor, Ennex International, explored the Sperrin mountains, discovering several gold bearing veins and doing some small-scale mining. Could they have known it would go on to become one of the world’s best unmined gold deposits? In 2009, Dalradian Resources Inc., a Canadian mineral exploration and development company, acquired the mineral rights to over 80,000 hectares in Northern Ireland, including the Curraghinalt gold deposit and we've been advancing the project ever since. Exciting Future Opportunities await at Dalradian ?? We will require 28 Longhole Production Drillers for our proposed underground mine in Tyrone if our planning application is approved. So, what does this role involve? The Longhole Production Driller will be a part of the production mining team, responsible for drilling production blast holes, prior to charging and blasting operations. Production drill holes are charged with explosives and then blasted. The ore will then be loaded and hauled to the ore passes to be transported to the crusher before moving to the surface by conveyor for final processing. The personal requirements for this role will be education to GCSE level or equivalent and experience working with large machinery. We are planning a 3-year, ￡15 million training programme beginning during the construction phase of the mine that will support local hiring. Dalradian has been exploring for minerals in Northern Ireland since late 2009 and has outlined a major deposit at Curraghinalt of gold, silver, and copper, along with smaller amounts of critical minerals such as tellurium. As is often the case, extraction of the primary mineral—in this case, gold—results in the extraction of others since they occur together in association. While recent attention has highlighted the importance of critical minerals, this focus isn’t new—what qualifies as “critical” has simply shifted as society has progressed. Minerals play an essential role in most products and services we use daily, either as raw materials or in the processing or delivery of those products and services. As a new, modern underground mine, our project is designed to incorporate the latest technology. Historically, mining jobs required significant physical strength. Today, IT skills are highly sought after, as virtually every aspect of mining can be digitized, controlled, or monitored remotely. Here’s a glimpse of some of the high-tech machinery that will be used at our modern mine: Load Haul Dump Trucks – Similar to front-end loaders but designed for tight underground spaces to transport rock. Jumbo Drillers – Horizontal rock drilling machines that prepare tunnels for blasting and excavation. Long-Hole Drillers – Vertical drilling machines that enable excavation between two horizontal tunnels to recover mineralized material. Auto Surveyors – Create 3D images of the rock surface in real-time, allowing for more precise drilling patterns. The ability to control equipment from the surface when needed enhances both health and safety standards while maintaining productivity, as automated work can continue during blasting operations. This technology also benefits the environment, enabling machinery to operate more efficiently, use less energy, and reduce reliance on diesel engines, ultimately lowering emissions. Mining vs. Exploration: What’s the Difference? Mining and exploration are two key stages in the life cycle of any mineral project, but they serve very different purposes. Exploration is the first step—it’s all about finding and proving up mineral deposits, which takes many years. Dalradian has been exploring the Curraghinalt area since late 2009 and has outlined a major deposit of gold, silver and copper, along with lesser amounts of associated critical minerals such as tellurium. Our exploration methods included soil and stream sampling to identify areas that may contain valuable minerals, followed by more than 190 km of drilling, to delineate the veins that contain valuable minerals. The goal was to build an accurate, 3-D model of what lies beneath us. Test mining was also performed on 3 areas underground to ensure the proposed mining methods would work. Once an economic deposit was confirmed through geological, engineering and feasibility studies, a planning application was submitted, providing detailed plans and environmental studies for the project. If planning approval is obtained, then construction of the project can proceed and will take 18-24 months. Mining involves extracting the minerals identified during the exploration phase. In 2017, Dalradian submitted a planning application to build an underground multi-metal mine. If approved, the project will be one of the largest-ever US investments in NI, creating numerous career, business, and community opportunities over the 20-25-year mine life. In short, exploration is the search for resources, while mining is the extraction of those resources. Together, exploration and mining support economic growth, job creation, and technological development while contributing to national security and sustainability.
