?? Retirees: Important IRS Reminder – RMD Deadline Approaching! ?? If you turned 73 in 2024, the IRS requires you to take your first Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from your IRA, 401(k), or similar retirement plan by Tuesday, April 1, 2025. ? Key tax implications to know: If you delay your first RMD until April 1, you may need to take two RMDs in 2025 – one for 2024 (by April 1) and another for 2025 (by December 31). Both will be taxable in 2025, which could push you into a higher tax bracket. Missing the RMD deadline can result in steep IRS penalties – up to 25% of the amount not withdrawn. ?? ?? BOI Reporting: A Whiplash of Changes! ?? If you’re feeling dizzy from the back-and-forth on Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) reporting, you’re not alone. The rules have been shifting at breakneck speed, leaving businesses scrambling to keep up. Here’s a timeline of the latest twists and turns: 12/3/24 – A U.S. District Court suspends nationwide enforcement of BOI reporting requirements. 12/23/24 – The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit reinstates enforcement. FinCEN announces businesses formed before 2025 must file by 1/13/25. 12/26/24 – The Fifth Circuit vacates the stay and once again blocks enforcement nationwide. 2/17/25 – A court order grants a Department of Justice request to stay the nationwide injunction. FinCEN extends the filing deadline to 3/21/25. 2/27/25 – FinCEN announces it will not penalize companies for missing BOI filing deadlines. A new interim final rule extending deadlines is expected by 3/21/25 ?? What does this mean for businesses? ?? The BOI reporting requirements are still active—businesses must comply by March 21, 2025, unless further changes occur. ?? FinCEN has paused enforcement for now, but future penalties are possible. ??
