Get to know Music Director Fabio Luisi, otherwise known as the "Wizard of Smell" in the latest feature by the Dallas Morning News as he explores The Scent Room. When he's not conducting the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, he's crafting his own signature fragrances. What do classical music and perfume have in common, you may ask? In part 2 of our Black History Month video series, we’re shining the spotlight on the Rasa sisters, two talented young musicians in the DSO's Young Strings program. Mentored by Young Strings teacher Andre Gustus, whose story we shared in our first video, these musicians reflect on the impact the program has had on their lives and share what music means to them.

In honor of Black History Month, we celebrate the legacy and impact of the DSO Young Strings program with a new video series. Founded in 1992 by our very own Black changemaker, long-time bassist Dwight Shambley, who passed away on January 27, 2020, DSO Young Strings develops the talents of exceptional and underrepresented string players in the city of Dallas. Over 5,000 students have received free access to instruments and weekly lessons, as well as other opportunities and resources essential for success both in college and careers in music. First in our series, get to know Andre Gustus, long-time Young Strings teacher as he talks about how he became involved with the program and its impact on the community.
