As soon as President Jimmy Carter was out of office, the next administration slashed budgets for every existing college level solar engineering program in the nation. My college plans evaporated with the rollout of “trickle down economics”. Politics has play a huge part in America losing so much ground in alternative fuels for over the following 40 years since this speech. SMH! I settled for a degree in mechanical engineering because of its emphasis on thermal sciences. Though I appreciate the technologies, I was not at all interested in studying boilers, steam plants, HVAC systems and IC engines. Yet I tarried through. Sustainability is where I always wanted to be since I was a tween. God has a way of making things happen! Today I take deliberate action to ensure more automobiles get their fuel from the Sun. Amen! Thank you President Carter for your service to our nation. I valued your vision and leadership in sustainable energy. I just want you to know I am still doing my part to keep the torch burning.
