Open source, native audio turn detection ?? ?? ?? Most voice agents today do turn detection by waiting for speech pauses of a specific, short length. That's not how humans do turn detection when we talk to each other! I've been working with some friends on a new turn detection model. If you're interested in this problem or in learning more about ML engineering, come hack on a small model with us! Congratulations to Lily Clifford and the Rime Labs team on the Mist v2 launch! We’re excited to share our partnership with Rime and expand the Pipecat ecosystem for developers building voice agents with open source. Rime is now integrated with the Pipecat vendor neutral agentic framework, as well as Daily’s hosted Pipecat Cloud offering. Google's full release of Gemini 2.0 Flash is a great thing for the voice AI ecosystem. Up to this point, almost every production voice AI agent has used GPT-4o. Voice AI apps need an LLM with fast TTFT, good instruction following, reliable function calling, and natural conversation dynamics. GPT-4o was ahead on all of these attributes by a wide enough margin that using any other LLM mostly didn't make sense. Gemini 2.0 Flash is competitive with GPT-4o on all four of those attributes. Now we have two excellent models for voice AI. Competition is good! https://lnkd.in/dCcN3TUd
