Helping create new standards of care and better futures through medicine as President & CEO of Daiichi Sankyo, Inc. and Global Head of the Daiichi Sankyo Oncology Business

Sharing my first “external” contribution to WSJ CEO Council around the heavily debated topic (and opportunity) of generative AI and its potential impact on the future of healthcare. Great perspectives by members Brian Becker, Revathi Advaithi and Joerg Moeller, M.D. One thing we can all agree on is that the human element –?the empathy and compassion we bring to patients – will always remain an essential part of harnessing machine learning. #WSJCEOCouncil #CEOExcellence

We asked four of our WSJ CEO Council members: 'What are some of the real-world ways generative AI has added material value to your business?' Here's what Ken Keller of Daiichi Sankyo US, Joerg Moeller, M.D. of BenevolentAI, Brian Becker of RSM US LLP and Revathi Advaithi of the Flex said. #WSJCEOCouncil #CEOExcellence Apologies in advance for the small print, but it can also be found in the print edition of The Wall Street Journal and in plain text below. “Resources at Daiichi Sankyo, machine-learning based or not, are dedicated to delivering innovative medicines swiftly. Time is critical for people with cancer. GenAI accelerates progress by providing efficient first drafts of anything from clinical protocols to data analyses. Shaving o time here and there brings the starting gate closer to the finish. We expect that soon, learning algorithms will help identify appropriate dosing and predict safety and ecacy outcomes. But human quality assurance, critical thinking and empathy will always remain essential.” Ken Keller Chairman of the Board, President and CEO Daiichi Sankyo, Inc. “The pharma and biotech industry still faces over a 90% failure rate in drug development, and 9,000 diseases lack effective treatments.? By integrating data from a vast range of sources—from genetics to clinical trials across all disease areas—generative AI can help us uncover new insights, identify new drug targets and improve success rates while reducing timelines. Patient-driven disease modelling focuses on mechanisms driving tailored medicines, while AI’s agnostic approach helps us overcome challenges even top scientists face.” Dr. Joerg Moeller CEO BenevolentAI “Generative AI offers a unique opportunity to reimagine how we work. It’s not about the technology itself, but about how it can unlock new ways of thinking and working. My advice: Think about AI as a catalyst for growth and focus on how it can complement your people, not replace them. It’s more about AI technology empowering human insight and creativity to solve challenges in new ways that neither humans nor technology could do separately on their own.” Brian Becker Managing Partner and CEO RSM US LLP “When deployed thoughtfully, AI fosters innovation, streamlines processes, reduces costs and enhances productivity. Using AI, we leverage our supply chain and manufacturing data to reduce waste and help make better decisions based on suppliers, logistics and operating conditions. We gain contextual insight from our data that enhances our ability to navigate our customers through a complex, dynamic global environment. We also manufacture data center solutions to help solve the growing power and compute demands as AI becomes ubiquitous.” Revathi Advaithi CEO Flex
