As part of #Moldova’s #EU #integration efforts, the DAI-led Technical Assistance project supporting the Association Agreement has developed a comprehensive #handbook on #negotiations to guide the process. The publication outlines the steps Moldova has taken, provides practical solutions to potential challenges, and shares lessons learned from other countries' experiences. This handbook builds on the strategic efforts of the EU-funded project's technical assistance team, which previously published a guide on legal approximation—an essential step in aligning Moldova’s legislation with EU standards and facilitating a smooth integration process. ?? https://bit.ly/4kylkdF #EUIntegration I #Moldova I #AssociationAgreement I European External Action Service I #EUD_Moldova I #Governance I Primo? STAAR Facility and Centre for Disaster Protection have produced a second report on emerging lessons on pre-agreed financing for shock-responsive social protection (SRSP) in Malawi, looking at the opportunities, benefits, and risks of linking it with disaster risk financing. ? Emerging lessons on pre-agreed financing for shock-responsive social protection (SRSP) in Malawi The second study on SRSP and disaster risk financing (DRF) by STAAR Facility and Centre for Disaster Protection explores the potential opportunities, benefits and risks of linking SRSP and DRF in Malawi. Key findings include: ? Malawi has undergone two phases of social protection system development, with a strong focus since 2019 on building shock-responsive capabilities. International partners have played a major role, providing technical support and funding (95% of the system in 2023). ? The social protection system in Malawi has scaled up responses to various shocks (e.g., COVID-19, cyclones, and droughts). However, limitations such as outdated social registry data and the absence of digital payment systems hinder timely scalability. ? The World Bank has played a critical role in providing policy support, technical assistance and financing for developing a DRF strategy and implementing a range of DRF instruments. This has improved predictability and helped reduce negative coping mechanisms. ? Efforts to integrate social protection with DRF and humanitarian responses have improved coordination and predictability. However, challenges persist with fragmentation, particularly due to donor-driven systems and misalignment with longer-term frameworks. ???Read the Malawi case study here: https://lnkd.in/exybvQ7c ???Read the Jamaica case study here: https://lnkd.in/eUac9MiH Lydia Poole, Daniel Clarke, Michèle Plichta, Lara Evans, Laura MacLean, Jennifer Gordon #Socialprotection | Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office | DAI

The private sector has long been a force for economic growth, but more and more companies are finding ways to drive development while strengthening their own business resilience. Local content—investing in local suppliers, workers, and industries—helps businesses create lasting impact in the places they operate, building stronger economies and supply chains at the same time. From energy to technology to manufacturing, companies are seeing that aligning with local content strategies isn’t just about meeting requirements, it’s about unlocking new opportunities. Done well, these approaches create jobs, transfer skills, and open doors to sustainable growth. In our new insight paper, local content experts from DAI’s Sustainable Business Group explore how local content works, why it’s gaining traction, and how businesses can leverage it to enhance both economic and sustainability outcomes. Celebrating learning and development beyond language barriers! This year's theme for International Mother Language Day, "Make Languages Count for Sustainable Development", emphasizes the crucial role of mother languages in promoting education, inclusion, and empowerment. Through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office funded FCDO-PLANE Nigeria project, over 500,000 children in Kaduna, Kano, and Jigawa States now have access to learning materials in their mother tongue. The introduction of Hausa as the primary teaching language in state-run primary schools in the three states led to a 15 percent increase in pupils able to read and perform foundational mathematics at the Grade 1 level.
