White represents portions of Attala, Carroll, Holmes, and Leake counties and is in his first term as House Speaker. After the class meeting, Speaker White met with Dr. Keenum to discuss common goals for the 2025 legislative session.

Congratulations to a longtime friend of the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Karen McCord, on receiving the Vice President's Pegasus Award, presented by Dr. Keith Coble. This recognition honors Karen's dedication and impact in advancing veterinary education and research at Mississippi State University.

Dr. Tyler Jumper, a veterinarian at Mississippi State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, is pursuing a master's in population medicine with a focus on developing a diagnostic test for trichomoniasis in bulls, which could significantly impact the beef cattle industry. This research aims to provide veterinarians with a more accessible transport media to prevent unnecessary calf losses and support the livestock industry across the United States.

Fish Innovation Lab Director Mark Lawrence will serve as the next vice chair of the Feed the Future Innovation Lab council, helping to advocate for Feed the Future research programs and facilitate coordination of activities amongst the Innovation Labs in their efforts to #EndHunger ???? ? “Mississippi State University is a trusted partner in the U.S. government’s efforts to end global hunger and food insecurity,” said MSU Vice President for Research and Economic Development Julie Jordan. “Dr. Lawrence’s election as vice chair is a testament to his leadership of the Fish Innovation Lab and its work to create solutions for a more resilient, food-secure future.” ? This year marks a milestone for our College of Veterinary Medicine, along with the Colleges of Architecture, Art and Design, and Forest Resources, with the highest enrollments in the past decade. Our College of Veterinary Medicine alone has reached an enrollment of 581 students, reflecting a 4.5% increase. Karen J. McCord was recently honored in Foundations magazine for her support of MSU. We are deeply grateful for her generosity, as well as the friendship she brings to CVM. Pictured with her horse, Rio—who, after treatment for a foot injury, went on to serve as a teaching horse—Karen plays an essential role in advancing hands-on learning for our students, helping them develop skills in equine care and handling.
