As Bitcoin nears $100k, some individuals are sitting on massive crypto gains. ?? Some folks may want to trim their position, but they are hesitant because they don't want to get hit with a huge tax bill. To kick off Thanksgiving week, one of my favorite tax planning opportunities for individuals who desire to give to charity is a Donor Advised Fund. What is it? It's simply a designated account for charitable giving. The neat thing about it is you can fund it with ETFs, crypto, or even your private company stock. Leading companies, like Figma partner with Daffy to enable their employees to donate company stock. Since the Donor Advised Fund is a tax-exempt entity, you can sell your crypto or stock inside of the DAF and ?????? have to pay any capital gains. In addition, for investments you've held more than one year, you're eligible to claim the Fair Market Value on the date of donation as a tax deduction. For individuals who have participated in a tender offer or had a strong commissions year, using a DAF to "bunch" multiple years of planned donations into one tax year can be an attractive option to consider. So if you're seeking a tax-advantaged method to support the organizations you care about this holiday season, a DAF could be a great vehicle to establish & fund before year-end.
