"Cybersecurity posture" is more than just a buzzword – it's a critical concept with a legal definition and real-world implications. 6 USC § 1500(g)(1) defines cybersecurity posture as the ability to identify, to protect against, to detect, to respond to, and to recover from an intrusion in an information system the compromise of which could constitute a cyber attack or cyber campaign of significant consequence. That means having the capability to not only prevent cyberattacks, but also to identify when they happen, mitigate the damage, and bounce back quickly. The Department of the Air Force Chief Information Officer Strategy LOE 2: The Future of Cybersecurity is dedicated to building a robust cybersecurity posture by: ?? Promoting cybersecurity awareness and resiliency across the Department. ?? Automating vulnerability management and incident detection. ?? Modernizing risk management with continuous monitoring, rapid updates, and automation. ?? ?Implementing Zero Trust architecture for cohesive data protection across all classification levels. ?? Building a resilient cyber defense with cryptographic agility, modernized infrastructure, and robust automated defenses. By strengthening our cybersecurity posture today, the Department of the Air Force ensures we are prepared and ready to meet the challenges of tomorrow's battlespace. #Cybersecurity #Cyberspace #FutureofCybersecurity #Cyberposture

Mrs. Venice M. Goodwine, CISSP, PMP, Chief Information Officer for the United States Air Force and United States Space Force, recently participated in a fireside chat with Ms. Alexis Bonell from the Air Force Research Laboratory at the Rocky Mountain Cyber Symposium. At the event, cyber and IT professionals from across government agencies, industry, and academia gather to collaborate, discuss, and propose solutions to today’s challenges in cybersecurity, readiness, and homeland defense. This year's theme was: "Securing the Future: Cyber Capabilities, All-Domain Superiority, and Strategic Advantage." During the discussion several pending initiatives were highlighted,?such as establishing an Artificial Intelligence Center of Excellence (AI CoE) and the alignment of the Headquarters Cyberspace Capabilities Center (HQ CCC) to the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO). Mrs. Goodwine emphasized that accelerating AI adoption is a top DAF priority, with an initial focus on cybersecurity, predictive maintenance, decision support, and prompt engineer training. The goal is to enhance the speed and accuracy of mission-critical functions, allowing warfighters to concentrate on mission readiness. Mrs. Goodwine recapped to the audience that the HQ CCC was realigned as a Field Operating Agency (FOA) this past December to better consolidate IT service delivery for the entire Department.?“We need shorter, more frequent development cycles so that we are providing Airmen and Guardians with the tools they need,” said Goodwine. She highlighted that both the Office of the DoD Chief Information Officer (DoD CIO) and DAF CIO focus on strategy, policy, governance, oversight, and advocacy. She noted that the realignment of HQ CCC parallels Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), with both entities delivering IT services on behalf of their respective CIOs. “My job as a CIO is to give the enterprise the IT capabilities they need so that the Air Force and Space Force can focus on and accomplish their missions,” said Goodwine. Mrs. Goodwine also articulated to members of industry in attendance how they can best work with the Department.?“Make no mistake about it, we need your expertise and innovative ideas to further our IT capabilities, from the back office to the battlefield,” said Goodwine. As the Department of the Air Force spearheads change with an aggressive approach to delivering data and AI capabilities for its warfighters, and streamlines its IT processes, it’s imperative for leaders at all echelons within government, industry, and academia to advocate for continuous improvements and encourage innovation. #RockyMountainCyberSymposium #Cyber #IT #Defense
