What an incredible two days! They were the culmination of months of hard work, and, hopefully, just the beginning of many productive partnerships and sector-wide progress to come.
Like sitcom writers out of material who resort to a clip show episode, I'm going to repurpose old work in a new format by sharing my closing remarks from the 2nd Global Direct Air Capture Conference because they say it all.
To start, thank you to everyone for coming! Many of you traveled from places near and far, and as we heard today, the DAC industry will be global.?
To our speakers and presenters, thank you for sharing your insights and expertise.?
To our incredible volunteers, thank you for taking the time out of their days to help make the conference run smoothly.?
To the dedicated behind the scenes staff at New York University, thank you for everything you've done to make this event possible.
I want to thank everyone from Breakthrough Energy , RMI, Good Energy Collective, Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES), and the Direct Air Capture Coalition who were part of our core planning group for this event.
Nicholas Moore Eisenberger, Rudy Kahsar, Daniel Pike, Emily Pope, Diandra Angiello, Soham Dalal, P.E., Jessica Gross, Natalie Volk, Matt Parker, Will Bernholz, and others who all played a role in bringing this together.
A few special acknowledgements.
Jack Andreasen Cavanaugh couldn't join us in person as he welcomed his first child, Casper, into the world on Sunday. Jack is a carbon removal powerhouse and his expertise and thought leadership are without parallel. One surefire way to get DAC to scale would be cloning Jack. Given the technology for that does not yet exist, having a little version of Jack out there is the next best thing. Congratulations to Jack and his growing family.
Sanjeev Menon. Coordinating volunteers, supporting marketing and communications, organizing the lightning round presentations, and also moderating an excellent panel, Sanjeev was a Swiss Army knife for this event.
Erik Funkhouser believed in the potential of, and need for this event and without his hard work and steadfast support, it wouldn't have happened. An additional huge thank you to Erik for connecting us to Koby Ahmed, our inimitable event coordinator.
Pulling off this type of event can feel like swimming against the current during a storm. Having Koby with us is like being on a motorboat during calm seas.
One last shout out to the breakout rockstar of this conference, my friend and colleague Aaron Benjamin. Stage presence, poise, passion, and prowess, Aaron is the total package. Aaron has been instrumental to everything we've been able to achieve with the DAC Coalition to date and I'm excited for him to keep deploying his talents to scale DAC in the future.
Thank you!
P.S. The two days were such a success that we were even able to get Londoner Aaron to his first Knicks game where he not only got to witness a Knicks W but also caught a t shirt.
