In January, I visited the The University of Chicago Booth School of Business for a fantastic conversation on harnessing fintech innovation for financial inclusion. Together with Benjamin Krause, Executive Director of the Becker Friedman Institute for Economics, Jennifer Tescher, Founder & CEO of the Financial Health Network, and Boum III Jr., co-founder and CEO of Daba Finance, we explored how generative AI and new technologies can unlock equitable opportunity — but only if they are designed and applied with vulnerable consumers in mind. Many thanks to the The Rustandy Center for Social Sector Innovation, the Center for Applied Artificial Intelligence at Chicago Booth , and the Stigler Center for the Study of the Economy and the State at Booth for hosting us. ?? ?????????????????? ????????????’?? ???????????????????? ?????????????????? ?????????????? ???????????????????? ?????? ?????????????????????????? ?? One of the biggest challenges in #Africa’s cross-border payments remains foreign exchange (#FX) and currency conversion. The ability to seamlessly convert currencies between different nations is essential for enabling trade and investment. Alongside this, technology plays a critical role—ensuring smooth transactions, from sending and receiving payments to cashing in and out. ?? At #AFIS 2024 in #Casablanca, Boum III Jr highlighted how Daba is actively tackling these challenges by democratising access to African capital markets. Their platform is empowering individuals to invest, build wealth, and save, with as little as 10,000 CFA francs. This innovation is changing lives across the continent, bridging the gap between financial markets and everyday Africans. ?? A particularly inspiring partnership discussed was with Ecobank Transnational Incorporated. By integrating Ecobank’s payment network, #Daba is extending its fintech-driven investment solutions across 33 African countries. This collaboration enhances accessibility and financial inclusion, making it easier for investors to connect with opportunities and grow their capital. ?? The future of Africa’s financial ecosystem lies in strategic partnerships, innovative technology, and accessible investment solutions. The impact of these advancements is already being felt, and the potential is enormous. ?? What are your thoughts on Africa’s evolving investment landscape? Let’s discuss! ????
