We’re skeptical (in a good way ??) and data-driven. We’re diverse in focus with the ability to zoom out and see the entire economy. Our deliverables are based in scientific studies without bias, and shared openly to generate a network effect for innovation. Why D^3? Because AI is only half the answer. --- Kara Miller’s overview with Karim Lakhani and Jen Stave, PhD kicks off a showcase series that will dive into the work of our labs and the angles we’re taking to invent the future. #FutureTech #Innovation #BusinessExcellence #DigitalInnovation #BusinessTechnology #AIAdvancements #DigitalTransformation #InnovationInBusiness?

(Re)inventing how organizations compete and thrive in the digital world and educating a new generation of leaders
关于我们
Technological change is reshaping business, the global economy, and societies. The accelerating pace of this change is simultaneously driven by digital, data, and design: ? Digital: digitization is happening everywhere, impacting all industries, the world is getting digitized ? Data: using data science and AI to analyze all facets of company, economic, and human data produced from digitization ? Design: engaging human-centered design to unlock the value of data science and deploy it as a tool Leaders today identify digitization as one of their top three priorities — along with climate change and diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Digital, Data, and Design Institute at Harvard (re)invents how organizations compete and thrive in the digital world and educates a new generation of leaders. D^3 (pronounced D-cubed) provides a new architecture for rigorous research, immersive learning, and cutting-edge practice by embracing close partnerships and collaborations with leaders and organizations impacted by digital transformation. Critically, the Institute houses both technical research in data science and machine learning alongside research examining broader business implications, allowing faculty in disparate disciplines to unite around common interests. D^3 is based at Harvard Business School, but seeks to engage and benefit all of Harvard. With 14 labs, 30+ faculty members, and 6 Communities of Practice, D^3 enables companies to be more competitive in the age of AI and generate new organizational models.

AI: Humanity’s Greatest Asset or Existential Threat? At SXSW 2025, two Harvard Business School experts go head-to-head: Shikhar Ghosh argues that AI is a ticking time bomb. Unchecked, it could lead to a dystopian nightmare. Should we hit the brakes before it’s too late? Karim Lakhani argues AI is humanity’s greatest opportunity—a technology that can enhance every aspect of our lives. But how do we harness its power without losing control? Where do you stand? Join the conversation: March 13, 2025 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM CT Hilton Austin Downtown, Salon C AI isn’t waiting. The future is being written now. Will we shape it—or be shaped by it? I just finished prepping for SXSW, where I’ll be hosting a debate on one of the most existentially important questions of our time: Will AI lead to human extinction, or will it be our salvation? But before I put real humans on stage to argue both sides, I decided to ask an entity with equal skin in the game: AI itself. I turned to Deep Research AI and fed it a simple but profound prompt: "Does more scientific evidence suggest AI will destroy humanity, or will it be our salvation?" The results? Absolutely fascinating. AI pulled from history, philosophy, behavioral science, and cutting-edge research to break down the evidence—both for and against humanity’s survival in the AI era. Spoiler: It gives us a 5% chance that it will destroy us. Those aren't bad odds! But they come with a ton of caveats about "acting responsibly". While some 2025 Oscar winners were delivering powerful, albeit over-timed, speeches, the Hulu streaming machine simply cut off. Our scholars and professionals unite on a mission to explore human-centered technology. Jacqueline Ng Lane, Vladimir Jacimovic, and Karim Lakhani dive into a critical question: How can AI enhance, rather than replace, human creativity? New research from D^3 reveals that AI is not just automating tasks—it’s expanding the boundaries of human problem-solving. By collaborating with AI, professionals across industries can unlock new levels of innovation, refine creative ideas, and push past traditional limitations. As AI continues to evolve, those who embrace human-machine collaboration will gain a competitive edge in decision-making, strategy, and breakthrough thinking. The future of work isn’t about choosing between human and machine—it’s about leveraging both for greater impact.
