March Madness is in full swing. Trine took down top-ranked Hampden-Sydney to win the 2024 D3 MBB National Title and NYU beat Smith to win the 2024 D3 WBB National Title. Congrats to both the Thunder and the Violets on unbelievable seasons! With D3 Hoops at a close until next season, many basketball fans will undoubtedly turn to the D1 tournaments beginning this week. And while most will be watching to see where Caitlin Clark shoots from or if LSU or UCONN will repeat, we will be watching the teams coached by former D3 athletes & coaches. In this year’s field alone, there are number of options to choose from: - 10 Teams coached by a former D3 player (+2 borderline “D3” cases) - 3 Teams coached by a former D3 coach If you dream of coaching after college, then you will be wise to tune in and remember this:?Many of the greatest basketball coaches in the world?right now?got their start at the NCAA Division 3 level. NIL?(which stands for “Name, Image, and Likeness”) was legalized in 2021, meaning college athletes could?finally?monetize their status as 'athletes'. Many were skeptical that there would be much (if any) long-term viability in NIL outside of the D1 level. But since then, D3 athletes have proven that they very much belong in the space. FAFSA Changes? There are a number of expected changes coming to the 2024-25 FAFSA form. Why do we say?expected, you ask? Because this year’s FAFSA form will not be released until 12/31/23. This is nearly two months later than the standard October 1st release most are familiar with. The Department of Education (DOE), who runs the process, took the extra time to roll out a few new changes that?should?make the process more intuitive and drive more money to families in need ?? Here are a few to be aware of… Updates to the 2024-25 FAFSA New key term: Student Aid Index This replaces the old Expected Family Contribution, or EFC, analysis for determining aid. Why? Families often thought EFC referred to how much aid the student would receive or how much the family would have to pay. SAI should help clear up that misconception. Clear student/parent questions In the new form, students will only see questions they are expected to answer. Parents/guardians now have a separate log-in and will see the questions assigned to them. This will hopefully provide clarity on what sections each needs to fill out and reduce confusion in the form overall. Ability to include more schools In the old form, kids could only list 10 schools that they were applying to. In the new form they will be able to do up to 20. While we typically do not advise anyone to apply to 20 schools, it is still a nice add on for flexibility. Check out our full post to learn more: https://lnkd.in/gn34cgy5
