As I mentioned in my previous post, I am incredibly excited about partnering with the Disaster Medicine Institute (DMI) to collaborate on world-class training initiatives globally. As a physician assistant, I am aware of the lack of disaster medicine training, to include CBRN training, that medical providers, nurses and EMS receive while in school and after graduation. The Joint Commission recognizes this and released new Emergency Management standards this year for each facility to meet. D2EMC and DMI are ready to prepare your staff and your organization by providing hands-on and virtual training to your emergency management teams as well as to your command suite. I'm excited to be certified as a veteran business enterprise (VBE), specializing in emergency management and hazmat consulting, by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. We are extremely proud of the work we have been doing within the Commonwealth as well as for those outside of Massachusetts.

I didn't want the week to end without commenting on the 80th anniversary of one of the most pivotal days in US history. As a young, 20 year old infantry medic assigned to the 3/8 INF BN, 8th Infantry Division, I was fortunate enough to be chosen to represent my unit for the 40th anniversary. With a crowd of multi-national spectators and eight heads of state to include President Reagan looking on, my brothers and I drove onto the beach, I in my armored personnel carrier. We marched into formation and this is when it hit me. With the sea to our backs, we faced the same cliffs as the brave Soldiers did 40 years before us. To witness this in person, to understand how daunting of a mission this was, is truly one of the most impactful moments in my 32 year military career. Never forget the sacrifices made by a few to secure the freedom for so many.

Another great IAFC Hazmat Conference. Outstanding presentations! It was great to see old friends and meet new ones while in Baltimore. I am incredibly excited about the partnerships and collaboration opportunities that were fostered. Great things to come!!

It has been a pleasure working with the Vermont Healthcare Emergency Preparedness Coalition conducting CBRN assessments and follow-on training at eight healthcare facilities throughout the state. We have finished six of them and are looking forward to visiting Central Vermont Medical Center as well as Mt. Ascutney in June. Thank you to the coalition for all of your support and a special thanks to the facility staff for being incredibly open and attentive as we discuss ways to improve the programs that currently exist. Looking forward to visiting the selected twenty-one facilities in Connecticut, collaborating with the Connecticut Health Care Coalition to conduct CBRN assessments for the various healthcare facilities in the "Constitution State." Lastly, thank you to the MA Department of Public Health for contracting D2EMC to conduct an in-depth report on the Mass Casualty trailer program that currently exists in the state. I am looking forward to providing feedback from the field as well as potential improvements to the existing program.
