As the global health funding landscape changes drastically, we are forced to ask ourselves if our work is still the best investment to improve health for all. At D-tree, we’ve seen firsthand how digitally enabled community health programs change how people demand and seek care. The data is clear and the impact is real. The cost? Less than a dollar per person. More from our CEO, Riccardo Lampariello, in his latest blog ?? https://lnkd.in/dAvqadB2

We are thrilled to partner with Endless to explore non-communicable disease prevention and control at the primary healthcare level in Tanzania ???? By leveraging our Afya-Tek model, we will develop and test a digital tool that enables community health workers to screen for NCDs during household visits. They will check blood pressure, identify at-risk individuals and ensure they receive the right care at the right time, whether through referrals to health facilities or private drug shops for timely treatment. With a rapidly changing funding landscape for global health, the need for flexible funding to achieve and sustain long-term impact is more relevant today than ever. A new article in Stanford Social Innovation Review from Lever for Change shares how this type of funding can be maximized for impact ??
The buzz around "Big Bet Philanthropy" has captured headlines—super-sized grants aiming to create transformative change. But behind the scenes, particularly now that nonprofits are facing funding crises, experts are questioning how to ensure that these large-scale gifts truly deliver long-term impact. At?Lever for Change, we believe we must embrace "Durable Capital"—flexible funding that allows nonprofits to grow and achieve their goals into the future. Through research and with real-world examples, we've identified six keys to success?for Durable Capital investments: ?? Strengthening Organizational Durability?– Grants should help nonprofits build long-term resilience, not just short-term programs. ?? Providing Larger, Longer-Term Support?– Multi-year, substantial investments provide stability and flexibility for strategic growth. ?? Targeting Well-Positioned Organizations?– Supporting nonprofits that can maximize large investments leads to greater impact. ?? Catalyzing Scalable Innovations?– Investments should help proven solutions reach critical mass. ?? Encouraging Experimentation?– Grantees must have the flexibility to test, learn, and refine approaches. ?? Embracing Collaboration?– Partnerships across sectors amplify impact and sustainability. Without durability, big bet philanthropy risks leading organizations to a funding cliff—rapid expansion followed by drastic cuts when the funding runs dry. But when structured with the future in mind, these investments become sure bets, not risky gambles. As our case studies show, Durable Capital is already proving to be a wise investment. Now, we need more donors to take bold action and bet on the long game. ?? Read more about durable capital’s impact in this Stanford Social Innovation Review article by our CEO Cecilia Conrad, our President Kristen J. Molyneaux, Ph.D., and our partner David Bowermaster (with research and support from Apoorva Baheti, Lana Halima, and Marc Moorghen): https://lnkd.in/gZtrHDyi #Philanthropy #SocialImpact #DurableCapital #BigBetPhilanthropy #LeverForChange

We are proud that our work leaves no one behind ???? A study from 2024 of Jamii ni Afya, Zanzibar's national digitally-enabled community health program, provides evidence that income and wealth, education and other social factors did not determine whether a mother received care. Breaking the cycle of poverty starts in early childhood ???? As part of Kizazi Kijacho, meaning the next generation, D-tree has been testing a digital parenting intervention in #Tanzania, where community health workers guide caregivers on health, nutrition, sanitation and early stimulation. Research will look at its impact and compare it to cash transfers to find the most effective path to stronger, healthier children. We were excited to meet with partners last week to share some initial successes and challenges and explore pathways to sustain and scale the initiative. More to come soon ?? Conrad N. 70% of the workforce. Less than 25% of the leadership. Every year on International Women's Day, we are reminded of this glaring paradox in global health: women are the backbone of the sector, yet leadership remains overwhelmingly male. ? I am proud to share that at D-tree, 56% of the senior leadership team and 58% of the Board are women. How did we achieve that? We identify talents, nurture and empower them, pay equal salaries and provide flexibility. The result is based on?meritocracy: tons of talented women leaders out there that just need an opportunity. #HealthForAll #UniversalHealthCoverage #GenderEquity #IWD #WomenLeaders
