This past Sunday a D-B Cartage team attended and participated in a regional Safety Rodeo hosted by the USPS South Suburban facility. Driver participants in the event had an opportunity to showcase skills such as dock-backing, serpentine, and stop-line, among others, as part of a one-day training session focused on safe driving practices and technologies. Events like this ensure the safety of our drivers, the freight they transport, and the general public. We would like to thank United States Postal Service and South Suburban specifically, for organizing and hosting this cross-functional, interactive training opportunity that allows us to carry out our responsibilities safely and efficiently. No industry has proven immune to the effects of the rise of the circular economy. Increasing Efficiency Through Innovation and Education: A Conversation with Mamadou "Alpha" Diallo, Our New Operations Manager Up until 2020, Mamadou was a chef. He had never thought of becoming a truck driver. However, the first wave of lockdowns delivered a big hit to the hospitality industry, and Mamadou embarked on a peculiar career journey. He became a truck driver, but his keen eye for detail, diverse skill set, and excellent organizational skills made him a standout among his peers. In the past four years Mamadou has taken on roles with increasing responsibility, and his track record led him to D-B Cartage. Keep reading to find out more about our new Operations Manager: what attracted him to join our team; what he hopes to accomplish; his approach to community building, and more. Right off the bat, Mamadou emphasized that having a consistent work schedule and being able to spend more time with his family has been the main motivator behind his transition to increasingly administrative work. But that alone is not enough. He was drawn to D-B Cartage by our strong work ethic, values, and commitment to our community. He added that he especially appreciates D-B Cartage for offering competitive pay with comprehensive employee benefits, which seems to be a rarity in the industry. Mamadou is laser-focused on increasing efficiency and improving communication through technological innovation and education. His main goal is to help everyone who needs to improve their understanding and use of the technology we utilize at D-B Cartage, including various electronic devices. D-B takes pride in its employees’ tenure, but with an aging workforce, we are excited to have Mamadou work on resolving this pain point with such passion and empathy. His first impression is that thanks to everyone’s openness to learn and improve, he can create a fun, supportive, and productive work environment. His approach to tackling the challenges he faces is rooted in continued education of the existing workforce, but is ultimately focused on making trucking an attractive career for young people. He hopes to contribute to making D-B Cartage, and the industry as a whole, a sustainable choice for people entering the workforce. His advice for new employees is surprisingly simple yet profound: “Watch, listen, and practice.” With hands-on industry experience, deep understanding of operations, and clear vision for the future, Mamadou’s addition to our team means we have one more all-rounder on board. Regarding community-building, Mamadou shared his perspective on nurturing relationships within the team: “I joke; I like to joke with people. I also try to find out what they value and compliment them. Be polite, show them love.” Mamadou’s approach highlights the importance of the art of observation and adds a necessary dimension of humanness to corporate relationships.
