Accelerating science and developing new technologies to cure, prevent, or manage all disease by the end of the century.
关于我们
The Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Network is a group of nonprofit research institutes that bring together scientists, engineers, and physicians with the goal of pursuing grand scientific challenges on 10- to 15-year time horizons. The CZ Biohub Network focuses on understanding underlying mechanisms of disease and developing new technologies that will lead to actionable diagnostics and effective therapies. CZ Biohub San Francisco — which was the inaugural Biohub and launched in 2016 — works on elucidating dynamic cell systems across scales in health and disease, joining forces with the Bay Area’s leading academic institutions — Stanford University, UC Berkeley, and UC San Francisco — to do bold, visionary science that can’t be done elsewhere. CZ Biohub Chicago, which launched in 2023, focuses on engineering technologies to make precise, molecular-level measurements of biological processes within human tissues, with an ultimate goal of understanding and treating the inflammatory states that underlie many diseases. It catalyzes collaboration between the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. CZ Biohub New York, which launched in 2023, brings together Columbia University, The Rockefeller University, and Yale University to bioengineer immune cells to sense and record signals of disease and adapt these cells to spot diseases such as lethal cancers and Alzheimer’s in their earliest stages, long before they are usually diagnosed.

“We’re starting to understand that the immune system does more than just defend against infections,” says Chan Zuckerberg Biohub New York Investigator Noah Palm of Yale School of Medicine. Your immune system might detect subtle early warning signs of illness long before symptoms appear. By tapping into this hidden power, doctors might diagnose illnesses like cancer or Alzheimer’s earlier, giving us a better chance to treat them effectively. Learn more about how #CZBiohubNY Investigators like Palm and Gordana Vunjak-Novakovi? of Columbia University are developing cutting-edge tech aimed at preventing, detecting, and treating diseases at early stages: https://lnkd.in/eWKnyhVQ

Happy birthday to us ??! It’s been 8 years since we embarked on a new way of doing science. So far we’ve: ?? Grown from 1?? Bay Area Biohub to 3?? across the U.S. ?? Funded 220+ Investigators at 9?? academic partners for high-risk, high-reward science ?? Filed 150+ patents ?? Worked with 30+ countries on pathogen surveillance ???? Hosted 25 scientific meetings ???? Seen 64K visitors to czbiohub.org datasets ? much more! The best is yet to come!

As climate change impacts the spread of infectious diseases, early detection of pathogens through a global surveillance network is increasingly critical to help prevent the next pandemic. Our team had the opportunity to represent Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Network at the World One Health Congress in Cape Town last week to share our work in developing a comprehensive training program using metagenomic sequencing and analysis for infectious disease surveillance in low-resource settings. We had a great time connecting with researchers and policymakers focused on integrating human, animal, and environmental health and strengthening health security around the world. #WOHC2024 #CZBiohubSF #OneHealth #InfectiousDisease

The CZ Biohub Network panel at the Chicago BioEngineering Conference showcased the possibilities for discovery when using the collaborative, open science Biohub model to break down silos and encourage innovation. Investigators from #CZBiohubCHI and #CZBiohubSF highlighted how organisms grow from a single cell into complex systems, detailed engineering approaches for real-time monitoring of tissue models, and explained why spatial and temporal measurements are essential to measure inflammation.

The Chicago BioEngineering Conference kicked off today at #CZBiohubCHI, convening trailblazing scientists and engineers to explore the tools and tech that are transforming the bioengineering landscape. Scientists from #CZBiohubSF, #CZBiohubNY, and #CZBiohubCHI are joined by researchers, engineers, and leaders in the heart of Chicagoland to discuss and collaborate on new approaches to everything from tissue and cell engineering to new omics approaches.

President, Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Chicago | Professor of Chemistry and Biomedical Engineering, Northwestern University
We had an awesome CZ Biohub Chicago Investigators Meeting last week where our newest awardees across University of Chicago, Northwestern University and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign shared cutting-edge research updates. We also had two thought-provoking panel discussions: "The Future of the CZ Biohub Chicago" where we explored the transformative potential impact of #CZBiohubCHI, and "Application of AI in the Life Sciences", which highlighted the exciting intersection of artificial intelligence and biology. The collaborative energy in the room was palpable - exciting times for science in Chicago!?

I'm excited to share our new preprint, created in collaboration with leaders in science and AI/ML. It outlines how virtual cell models can transform the field and draws from extensive community discussions and a CZI-hosted workshop where many of the authors contributed. This is our roadmap for the future — developing, implementing, and deploying AI-driven virtual cells will require an #OpenScience approach, broad community involvement, and long-term commitment. https://lnkd.in/gzpJ6zN3
