Recently, the City of Fort Lauderdale's Planning & Zoning board approved Phase II of the Nautico District, 5-2. It will consist of a condo tower, an apartment tower and a hotel with ground floor retail. The board said the "eye-catching design as being a standout compared to newly built towers nearby." Supporters noted that Phase II will, "bring new life to the neighborhood and give people another gathering spot south of the New River." Cymbal DLT attorney Stephanie Toothaker said, "...we’ve called this district Nautico because it’s an homage to the water and to the marine industry and of course the preservation of the marina that is there, although it is going to be upgraded and will be state-of-the-art.” The City of Fort Lauderdale commission vote is expected this October.
